I've been waffling on flying over to look for work. I have about 5 years of experience in Busan and solid references. Now that the criminal background check is changing I'm wondering if I would be able to get all the necessary stamps, etc. in Korea so long as I brought my FBI criminal background check with me? |

Hey hey,
I saw that you had 5 years experience in Busan, nice! I wonder, what schools did you teach at?
I'm going to be starting at a school in Haeundae in October. I was in Incheon in 2003, but am coming back now
Maybe you can point me to some cool places to go around Busan? Places to stay away from? Heh.
I'm going to be in a goshiwon for October, then into my teacher's apartment. Any tips on a goshiwon? |

Hmmm... I never stayed in a goshiwon but I saw them around enough universities. I taught at English Channel (they folded I think), YES, two public schools and a university. If I were you I'd try to get an apartment in the Jangsan (Haeundae New Town) area. The neighborhood near the subway is great, two theaters, a grocery store, coffee shops, noodle shops, etc. It rocks. A GREAT area to live in. |

Yes, good idea. I flew over myself and had an interviews the next day.
Took me four whole days to sign with the school of my choice. Yes, I'm also in Pusan. I don't know when you were last here, but its changed a lot. |

So I contacted the FBI's local office and they sent me a PDF for the fingerprint card. Am I correct in assuming I can print this out on a standard inkjet printer and then fingerprint myself? |

FBI background checks can take up to 3 months to get back. Why not look for a job while you wait...?
I wouldn't fingerprint myself. Have a professional do it for you so you don't risk having your fingerprints rejected. |

You can print it and then:
Go to a local police station and explain you need a check for a job and ask them to facilitate the prints for you.
Do you have enough ink to fingerprint yourself? Do you know you have to roll your fingers to get the print instead of just smashing on the card ?
If you do, then you can do it yourself.
PS.... make and send two copies because one might get rejected. |

I agree with a previous poster, you might as well start looking for jobs now since you have to wait for the FBI check. Better to know that you'll have a place when you get to Korea plus have the airfare paid. I understand about wanting to come to Korea to look in person(I've done it before as well), but if you can find a decent gig, I'd definitely wait. |

I disagree about looking for a job until you have all your documents and ready to go. |

Just get your state background check. That will work fine and you won't have to wait so long. It took me 4 months to get my FBI background check from the states as I am immigrating to Canada. If you do go that route go to your local State Patrol office and they will finger print you for free and they have the forms there. |
