I got out of the habit of wearing a watch because of swing dancing. I stopped carrying one back when I was still in Montreal and before I had a cellphone. So I used to check the time on the payphones I passed if I needed it. Time was also displayed in the metros. If I couldn't find the time around me anywhere (actually quite rare), I'd just ask someone. I only put one on when I taught. Now I don't even do that, cause I have my cellphone, ipod, and when I'm teaching, I have my classroom computer that has the time, and there is a clock on the wall.

Also when it's hot I don't want anything on my wrist.

I had no clue what the time was for 4 whole days in Thailand, I generally worked it out the old fashioned way - via the position of the sun.

I used to love wearing watches. I have a lovely brown leather/metal banded Fossil with a wooden (really, wooden) face. It's beautiful.

Then I got eczema all over my wrist, so now I can't wear it. Sucks.

I happily abandoned mine over vacation but find it an indispensable tool in the classroom.

The students dont know it but the various activities throughout my lessons are pretty much "by the clock" & every class is hitting a nice note of closure just as the bell rings.

I alternate classrooms, cant trust the wallclocks, & find it awkward to check my cellphone frequently.

I wear a watch, partly because I have to wear a suit to work. Wearing a suit with no watch just doesn't look right. The watch is part of the outfit.

When my grandmother died, my grandfather gave me her wedding ring. He'd made it by hand, and it's really important to me, so I wear it every day. Unfortunately, it's white gold, so I can't wear any of my watches with it.

I've been watch free for a couple of years now.

This is the most ridiculous thing I've read in a while on this forum, and that is saying something.

So because white gold and yellow gold don't match, you forsake wearing a watch?

I guess I am practical. I don't care if my watch matches what I am wearing or not. Its purpose is to tell me the time, not make me look better.

I have worn a watch since I was 6 or 7 years old. It is pretty hard to break a 30+ year habit. I feel naked without my watch.

i love watches so much, sometimes i go to sleep with them.

i collect watches, so its not necessarily for fashion or practical reasons, i just wear them as a hobby. i like to collect REAL watches, not those 100$ pos fossil watches or those Calvin Klein pieces of crap that koreans think are high fashion...

a nice, expensive watch, with technical merit says a lot about a person. its classy. the type of watch u have on can tell people more than u think about urself.

I guess I think nothing of myself because I don't wear a watch and never have. I don't carry a cell phone either but my ipod has the time. I usually have no trouble finding the time in most places.

If you can't find the time where you are then maybe you shouldn't be there at that time or time is of no concern in that place.

Whenever I'm teaching in an environment without clocks on the walls, like I do now, I need a watch to keep track of time. I guess I could use my cell phone instead, but I don't really like the message that sends to students. My watch is a nice one too, so that's a bonus.

They are uncomfortable and I hate them. When we were kids, my mom always tried to make us wear watches. If a watch broke or was lost, we knew that the next birthday or Christmas, we'd be getting another god damn watch.

If I found wearing a watch essential, I'd have purchased a white gold or platinum watch, but in the weeks immediately after receiving the ring, while shopping around for a watch I'd be happy with wearing every day, I got used to the feeling of a lighter wrist, and decided against it and used the money for a trip to Europe instead.

White gold and yellow gold clash, unless they've been woven together in one piece of jewelry. Some ESL teachers maintain their sense of style, as difficult as this may be for others.
