With all the security hassles, rudeness and crappy service, I try to avoid all U.S. airports unless there are no other options.

DCA isn't a bad airport. It is super easy to get to from the District via the Metro. Two of the terminals are pretty nice too (3rd is in dire need of remodeling).

Dulles, on the other hand, sucks. Out in the boondocks, a pain to get to, and the security lines are slow there. I'd guess Dulles is the reason Washington, DC is fourth on the list.

The international terminal at SFO is nice, I wouldn't mind stopping over there again.

Agreed about Houston being high on the list, beautiful airport and great restaurants.

Agree 100% about SFO international terminal. I've been there several times and it is my choice airport if I have to layover between Seoul and my final destination of Toronto.

I don't see why NYC's JFK gets a bad rap. I was there this summer and it wasn't that bad.

My worst experience was probably flying in and out of Detroit...

Tampa's airport is wonderful - free wireless internet, lots of cubicles and desks with power outlets, a logical layout, quick security, and a very nice lounge section. SFO is also nice, as is Phoenix.

Atlanta, O'Hare, LAX, Boston, Detroit and Dallas, however, are bad enough to make me want to avoid US airports all together for the foreseeable future.

1. It depends what terminal you are in. Some are better than others.

2. It is in the boondocks. If you're trying to get to any point from midtown Manhattan northward, it can take ages.

3. You probably haven't ever had to go between terminals. While thankfully now there is the airtrain, it wasn't so easy back in the day.

And remember, the article is for cities. La Guardia airport is a shithole (with delays all the time) and Newark is slightly nicer.

But yes, SFO Intl. is the nicest part of an airport in the States that I've been to.

I second Houston....what a great airport!!!!

La Guardia was being rennovated or something when I was there early last year...

Charlotte/Douglas was good....

Ohio was not bad...for all the 30 minutes I was transiting...

LAX, SFO and San Jose weren't bad....but that was quite some time ago

At the end of the day, nothing in the States compares to Asia's holy triumvirate of Singapore, Hong Kong, and Seoul.

Too bad the city of Houston itself is one of the three worst U.S. cities.

Dallas Fort Worth is all right. Words can not express my disdain for LAX though.

You are right. I forgot about all those terminals. PAIN IN THE BUTT. Yeah, for that unorganized and inconvenience, I'd say it sucks.

I didn't put it down for the $60 cab ride from Manhattan as if I was getting a cab from any downtown area and going to the airport it would be the same in most places I travel to (Seoul for instance).

I am most likely going to fly out of JFK again next year. The prices were just so good, its hard to beat, even with the taxi fare.

La Guardia wasn't impressive. I just flew in there, that was easy. But from what I've seen of most domestic terminals in the US they are basic airports, no frills.

I can vouch for PDX (Portland, OR). It's a really nice airport, I think it was actually #1 at some point. It is so well-organized and easy to find your way around. They have free wi-fi and I think there's even places to plug in your laptop, unlike SeaTac in Seattle and Gimpo here in Korea (my laptop is old and the battery is shot, so it's important to me that I can plug it in and use it while I'm waiting at the airport). I only wish more flights went to/from Portland, seems like you always have to fly through Seattle to get there or get out of there.

MSP is my home airport and I guess I don't have much to say about it. It gets the job done, and traffic in and out of the airport is usually pretty good.

I guess if you don't have an opinion of a place one way or the other, it's probably a pretty good airport.
