Should the women previously rescued also have been left there? I've heard that argument made. |
I wonder if the US government errrr the taxpayers paid the $600,000 fine also. Good thing Carter promised that It will never happen again. So when it does, we will have to concede something more than just our dignity as a country. |

I believe so, yes. Both Gomes and the women knew what they were doing and what the consequences of their actions might be, yet chose to continue into North Korean territory anyway. Since when does an American expat knowingly breaking the laws of another country warrant the interference of popular U.S. political figures (well, when capital punishment and lifetime sentences are not involved)? |
I think something needs to be clarified here. The women stepped into North Korea then left the country. The wacko North Korean guards apparently crossed into China to get the women after they were back in China. How else could they have captured them. |

I didn't hear about that. How far were they pursued?
I wasn't aware China was so blas about foreign military personnel, North Korean or not, crossing their borders to make arrests. Learn something new every day I guess. |

Firstly, are we really to believe the reporters? Secondly, they DID at least at some point go into North Korea, according to them (how stupid). Finally, they were stupid enough to go without guards. I remember hearing an interview with a reporter who was done work in the border region. You know what he did? He hired Chinese police to accompany him.
How else could they have captured them? When they were in North Korean territory.
Seriously, Ling and Lee don't really have much evidence supporting the claim that they were captured in Chinese territory. |

About as much evidence as the North Koreans had that they had entered their territory. |

And how much evidence was that exactly (and how much did it cost?)
Please cite your sources. |

They had, as evidence, "confessions" from the two reporters and soe video evidence from them - the same amount of evidence that showed the reporters' side of things.
The evidence was the same. If you want sources, learn to use Google. |
