|
|
First timer here, I've searched through the forums for about twenty minutes and still can't work this out, a recruiter has just told me I now need to have my criminal record check & degree apostilled, do I need to travel to the Korean embassy to do this or is there an easier way? |

Are you in the UK?
Regardless of location you really should have done your homework.
The Criminal Record Check has needed to be apostilled for quite some time now. It is not a recent thing.
If you are in the UK you will need a notary to sign both documents then you will need to send the documents to the Foreign and Commonwealth Office to get Apostilled. The FCO will not apostille anything without a recognized notary signature.
You can get a photocopy of the degree notarized and apostilled, which Korean immigration will accept. This means you don't need to send your original degree to Korea, or to the FCO to get apostilled.

Have never needed my 2 previous Subject Access documents notarised before getting an Apostille from the FCO. |

If it's a Subject Access (the one with the two blue bands) you get the ORIGINAL Apostilled. There are solicitor offices near the Milton Keynes FCO where you can get your degree photocopied and notarized. It cost me a tenner to get it notarized. Then take that with your subject access to the FCO and get them both Apostilled. Easyyyyy |

About 4 weeks from applying for the CRC to sending them all off by DHL. |

But with CRC already in hand, how long to get it a) notarised and b) apostilled? Same day, or does the FCO take a week to do it? |

If the CRC is a Subject Release, it doesn't need notarizing, just Apostilling. There are a couple of solicitor offices 30 seconds from the FCO in MK.
As for the FCO, they do it there and then for you if you go down in person. I was in the building a whole 40 minutes before I left with two Apostilled documents! I was ecpecting a lot longer. |

Does the notarisation of your degree have to be in the same province/county as your university, or can it be anywhere in the UK? |

Anywhere. As long as the solicitor/ notary public stamps and signs it in THEIR name (not the solicitor firm's) then you're good to go. I was unsure about whether to go with solicitor or notary public but the prices vary.
Solicitor costs about 5-10 and a notary public can cost anywhere from 60 - 80... so I just went with the solicitor and there were no problems. |

Disclosure Scotland (look up website) can be used by all UK citizens for a CRC cert. They also provide a signatory which is equivalent to a notary - however, they did forget to sign mine, and in the process of re-sending it, it got lost in the post. Apart from that, they were very fast and cheaper than going to a notary public. |

Couple of questions if you don't mind:
Disclosure is a national check, right?
And how long do they take to get it to you?
If you apply in person, can they do it in a day? |

Not directed at me, but I know the answers.
1. Yes, the Disclosure is a UK wide check.
2. They say it can take up to 14 working days. I had mine in 4 days. This is different if you are an overseas applicant - it can take up to 21 days.
3. You have to apply for it online or via post (though I'm not sure this last option is still available). You can't do it in person (as far as I am aware). |
