If your folks are in the U.S or Canada, I suggest using Google Voice instead of Skype. It's free to call landlines and cell phones.

Just use a proxy if you outside the USA. If you dont know what a proxy is use google. Its your friend!

And yes.. you can use a Korean bank... you will just need a kind of confirmation code from them. you will know what I mean when you get to the last stage of buying credit.

I actually subscribe to a VPN and used it to sign up for a google voice account a while ago...but darkjedidave made it sound like using google voice is as simple as logging into the website and it really isnt.

I have problems with my Korean card, but got around it by registering for Paypal with the same card, then using Paypal to pay for my skype minutes. Simple.

Sorry, I don't know what to tell you, but it is.

I created a Gmail account, clicked on my name on the left side about halfway down (has a green camcorder next to it) then click on Call Phone. Easy http://www.flickr.com/photos/darkjedidave/4951202432/

Nope, signed up for a Gmail account (never had one before) last weekend in Korea, clicked on the green camera icon in the screenshot and the phone appeared. I use Qook for my internet and no VPN is installed on the laptop I used. Maybe I was just lucky, who knows
