I've sent to Latin America twice and Australia twice in 6 months. Never had my passport stamped. Yet one of my friends has had her stamped every time she's send money abroad. She's sent less than me. We're both E2s. Are there rules about stamping? Who gets stamped and why?

It's bank policy and they are not allowed to do it. No one is allowed to make marks inside your passport other than immigration.

i never take my passport to transfer money, I simply take my ARC card. First couple of times they asked me to bring it next time, I always just said I forgot

This friend has been here for a couple years and the bank has filled three pages of her passport with stamps. There are proabbly about 6-8 stamps per page. In the back of her passport. Is that even legal?

I've always been asked for my passport. But they've never looked at it. Except for the first time.

They'll tell you they have to, but like most rules and regulations in Korea, they don't (it may be bank policy, but in Korea rules truly were made to be broken a lot of the time).

My bank doesn't (KEB), but other branches might (when you've been in Korea longer, you'll see what I'm talking about). I think it's illegal, but call your embassy to find out (and even if it's legal, threatening them with reporting them to the embassy might be enough).

Again, they don't have to. I don't know why they do.

i send money every month and i have never heard of this. what do they stamp in your passport? how is that even possible?

Not mine. a friend's. I suppose the stamp the date and amount in the passport. It's on the last three pages. The part that says Amendments and Endorsements.

Supposedly you're only allowed to send 10 mil won out of the country in one year? Maybe that's why? Though I could have sworn that you could send more if you prove that you legally earn more.

I've got stamps in my passport from KB bank. I think its from changing money, not only sending.
She put them near the end where she thought no one would notice..
The wench even wrote in it too- how much cash I was changing.

Bank laws must supersede all other laws in Korea.

when i buy t/cs at wori bank and told them they couldnt do it that only immig can mark a passport but they insisted.

whats worse when i emailed the us embassy in june after the latest time they did it i got this response:

I just do it from designated ATMs, these days. It takes 30 seconds, as opposed to up to 20 mins with a teller.

Stamping your passport is bogus. They have no possible reason to ever even look at your passport. That is what your ARC is for.

I just changed money at Woori . I got dollars and Amex traveller's cheques. And my husband changed at KEB. Our passports weren't stamped. My friend's was stamped at Nonhyeon? (the agricultural bank)

I'm afriad of the ATM, one wrong button and my money goes elsewhere.
