www.radoja.ca

Hey Everyone just thought this might be able to help people who are coming into the country for their first time. It's short and sweet with comic observations of Korea, which i'm experiencing for my first time. I've only been here a month and I mainly have it set up for family and friends just. Maybe this will encourage anyone thinking of making the move to South Korea! Surprised). Or maybe it'll be completely useless lol...either way check it if u want and leave some feedback. cheers

Hi Steve, thanks for sharing your blog. Is this your first time teaching english? Would you recommend yr school? I've been trying to find a public school but I'm wondering if I should open my options up to private.

"Koreans appear ahead of western culture in terms social [] advancement."

What? I'm sorry, but no.

I find this paradox fascinating since Koreans appear ahead of western culture in terms social and technological advancement.

In what way? Their acceptance and tolerance of foreigners/minorities? Commitment to sanitation? Letting others go first and moving aside, particularly on subways and elevators? Their aggressive attitude to combat domestic violence? The advancement of women?

In what way? Their amazingly successful space program? That their company developed the most advanced and popular cell phone (the Iphone)? That they invented all the computer parts that they manufacture?

OP still has the newbie goggles on and has a lot to learn about Korea, but there is nothing wrong with keeping a blog showing your experiences and thoughts. No need to be flaming out his blog!

The OP has been in Korea all of 5 minutes.

Give him a break.

Making cultural observations when you first arrive is tempting as everything you see and learn seems important. In a way it is as you started from scratch.

The aforementioned sentence aside (oh, how I remember making such sweeping remarks about Taiwan), I quite liked your post. It also made me laugh out loud, since just the other day, my manager commented on the fact that I sleep with the a/c and a fan running all night. She's convinced that this behaviour is going to make me terribly ill.

Anyway, I'll add you to the links section on my blog.

My Co-teacher and I debated it at lunch the other day. She was convinced about it since people supposedly died from it. So I simply asked her, "what was the cause of death?" She had no answer. I convinced her to do home and actually google it. She came the next day and apologized Rolling Eyes and said I was right and that she had never heard differently.

One down, 50 million to go
