Which documents did you submit exactly?
CBC: Subject Access only needs an Apostille. Basic Disclosure from Disclosure Scotland needs to be notarised and apostilled. If in Korea, substitute Apostille for "Letter of Attestation".
Degree: Original doesn't need any apostille or notarising. A copy requires both things. |
Thats what i thought.
I submitted the original diploma, which they said was OK.
But they rejected the letter of attestation with the CBC.
So obviously they made a mistake.
Now the regulations have changed overnight.
So now I have to send the CBC to the FCO for apostille?
and...Get a copy of the degree notarised/legalised by the british council ..and then send it to the FCO for apostille? |
The quickest way might be to get the British Council to stamp a copy of the degree so you can send home for the apostille. However, a word of warning. I found this service to be rude and full of communication problems. I was prompt with providing the information they very rudely requested. When I checked to see what was taking so long (a week later) they accused me of not sending the information. After I explained that I had my degree was magically ready the next day. Though when I went to collect it the young Korean guy at the desk said he had no idea what I was talking about and that they do not provide this service. The level of English at the British Council was quite low. The level of politeness, basic customer service skills and organization was considerably lower.
If you go down the British Counil route then keep checking the progess of your degree stamp. Make sure that they are on the ball. Speak clearly and slowly too.
You can also apply to the KCUE but you need the help of your employer and it can up to a month people have said.

Is this stamp sufficient then to get an apostille from the FCO ?
It doesn't seem to say anything too definite on the website:

It is. I just got it.
But the British Council in Korea is not without its problems. I've edited my post above. Have a look at it, youll see what I mean. |

If the problem is just the confusion over the "Letter of Attestation" then contact Korean Immigration again.
If you don't speak Korean, then get a Korean speaking friend or your recruiter to speak with them.
I think if KI rejects it then contact the British Embassy. I think they can contact the Immigration office dealing with your application and square it with them.
You shouldn't need to submit documents again. |

| Can someone summarize the final documents that immigration need please. There seems to be so much confusion about what the British Council can and can't do. On a side note, it is sad (but not entirely suprising) that the British Council employs people who are rude and unhelpful. |

The British Council will stamp a copy of your degree. They check with your University that the degree is real. This stamp is equivalent to a notary public signature. Once you have the stamp you can send the degree copy to the FCO in the UK for the apostille.
You also need the criminal record check with apostille. |

To summarize -
Copy of degree - Stamped by British Council then sent back to UK FCO for apostille OR A copy of you degree verified by the Korean Council for Univeristy Education, this can only be done by your employer and may take up to 6 weeks
Criminal Check - Either Subject Access or Disclosure Scotland form which has been verified by the British embassy in Seoul (There seems to be a bit of confusion on this?? are both the subject access and disclosure scotland accepted still and will the embassy still verify them)
Medical check - Must be done at one of the immigration approved hospitals
If anyone has any clearer info then that would be great, I'm going to be renewing in Feb next year so would like a bit of a head start on getting the documents together |

I'm about to renew at the moment. I'll find out tomorrow exactly what a UK applicant needs for renewing and post it up. |

That would be most helpful. It seems like there is still alot of confusion about what we need. |

What has irritated me is how the British embassy has totally withdrawn from helping the visa process in any way. Up until a year ago...
They used to notarise degree certificates: now they don't.
They used to notarise criminal checks. now they don't.
They used to renew passports: now they don't.
One has to wonder what good at all the British embassy is to its citizens?? |

| Right, I spoke to the office. You apparently need just to have your degree authenticated to re-sign. I'm still a little bit confused about whether I need a new criminal background check, but I'm going to order it anyway. |
