It will not be a fun day getting to & from school tomorrow with typhoon Kompasu forecast to hit just to the north west of Gyeonggido / Seoul tomorrow. Winds of 175kmph at the moment according to JTWC. Currently it's nearing Jejudo.

First annoyance: waking me up at 5:00 am with the ceaseless window rattling. But I have been compensated by enjoying the views of the writhing trees from my 14th floor balcony. It will be an interesting walk to work in a little while. Don't think I'll try it with an umbrella; glad I have a rain poncho.

I'm thrilled they cancelled the first two classes for "Election", then later upon arriving to school and seeing no one else there- I check my phone msg which says "School opening has been delayed until 10am". Went back home and enjoyed some cornflakes and Starcraft 2 Cool

I didn't hear a thing in Chungnam SW of Seoul, but I noticed today any plants outdoors are shredded with trees slightly bent. The trees stood up quite well, but plants were annihilated so you can forget any local harvest making sense this year. I didn't see any broken windows or much of anything else. It was a minor storm that moved through quickly well ahead of schedule. The thunder storms in the US are often much more severe than this typhoon. It's nice and sunny today.

Nothing much to report from west Gimpo / Ganghwa area today with the only unusual observations being the gas powered hot water would not come on. I kept getting a red light appearing on the switch, that I had never seen before in 12 months of faultless operation. Eventually I got it to go, after 6 tries. I've no idea where the pilot light for the gas in my officetel is located, but probably outside in the wind. Luckily I didn't have to go outside & re-light it manually. The only other odd event was seeing the stormwater drain gushing upwards like a geyser & spewing water all over the road outside my school, instead of draining down into the drain.
