|
|
I'm thinking it would be a good idea to bring over some gifts in my checked luggage for my co-teacher and principal at the main school I will be working at. What would be good gifts? (only allowed 20kgs checked luggage though!)
My initial thought would be a bottle of Scotch for the principal, but I really don't want to perpetuate a stereotype about Scots by bringing over alcohol, especially to a school principal. Its also relatively heavy for a gift.
For the co-teacher I think a small jar of raspberry jam would go down nicely. It's our national fruit and we do make really good raspberry conserves and preserves here.
Opinions?

You could bring just about anything because if it's not Scots it's crap. |

I really wouldn't worry about perpetuating any negative stereotypes about alcohol here. I don't think "negative" and "alcohol" really go together in Korean culture. |

Try and teach your principal why single malts are better. He'll love you for it. |

I'd say bring some good whiskey. The vast majority of the whiskey available here is terrible. The small amount of decent stuff is vastly overpriced. |

Careful with the whiskey gifts. I nearly brought a bottle of scotch for the principal of my previous school - but my spidey senses were tingling. Just as well I didn't - she turned out to be a catholic nun!
Och aye the noo. |

Don't bring a gift. You are employed to work there. Would you bring a gift for your boss in Scotland? |

Don't get your principal anything. I have been told by many a Korean that it is bad form to bring your principal a present. He is the one who doles out gifts - not you.
Your co-teacher - anything tartanesque - a nice scarf would go down well with Koreans of both sexes and of all ages. Mind you - I would wait until you found out if your co-teacher is a douchebag or not... |

Glasgow airport have nice wee triple 50ml box sets of Balvennie for about 18 squid.
Gave a bottle to P, VP and a colleague. They were well appreciated gifts.
Also nice fudge (whiskey flavoured) which will be only a celtic type gift for a fiver.
Save your 20kg checked allowance, and buy stuff in duty free to carry on. The bag gets sealed to allow easy transit through checkpoints.
Where are you flying from? I usually fly Emirates from Glasgow, 30 Kg allowance. |

edinburgh rock, tablet, and macaroon bars and a few cans of irn bru.
Thatll do for me, but for your principle, no idea man, scotch is plentiful here, shortbread and a few bags of tea would probably be nice. Thats what i gave to my principle. Nothing too dramatic.
Some pictures of hairy coos as well. |
