|
|
I'm trying to help someone figure out some good cities to live in the Seoul suburbs. I currently live in Bundang and know that that is a nice area. I've also heard that Ilsan and Bucheon are pretty good as well.
Any suggestions of somewhere that is nice to live in, has easy access to the city (preferably on a subway line), and isn't a dump?
Thanks. |

I'd wager most people would vote for Bundang, Ilsan and Anyang not necessarily in that order. |

Can't go wrong with Anyang. It has a little of everything. Even mini beaches in some river areas.
I fell in love with the place as soon as I got here. Feels so nice to return to it after having a night out in Seoul. |

if I could find a similar PS gig to my current one in Anyang, that would be my first gepik/gyonggi do choice as well.
and Hongdae is about 40-45mins from Anyang station.
cab ride back from Seoul very late on a weekend night is about 25K. |

+1 for Ilsan. Lake Park, Kintex convention center, easy access to hiking, 40 minutes to Seoul by the 1000 bus or #3 train. La Festa for night life. Western Dom for shopping. We have a Costco. BBQ Ribs are the "city specialty." Cleaner air than Seoul (not saying much, but still). |

I didn't know that about the bbq ribs. Is there a specific name for these ones or restaurant you can suggest.
I also give my support to Ilsan for the reasons mentioned. However, one downside is that it doesn't have much character/history as it's a very new planned city. |

Head over to any galbi place in La Festa. Especially the ones with the guys out front grilling the ribs. You should spot them easily enough.
True about the history. You're not going to find any old temples in Ilsan really. You'll have to go oustide the city to find that. The historic buildings are kind of sad in Korea for the most part. They are mostly just remade buildings that look like the originals that the Japanese destroyed. Sad reminder of the atrocities committed during the occupation. |

It's called 등갈비 (deung galbi). The meat street is literally jam packed with places serving ribs. |

I'll throw one out for guri. Tons of other foreigners and extremely close proximity to seoul but still close to some nice mountains and trails. Its rapidly evolving as well. The turkish kebab chain even just expanded there for its 3rd location behind Itaewon and Hongdae. That's saying something! |
