Does anyone know where I can find a Pentax retailer in the Suwon to Seoul area? I've found a couple of stores that have PENTAX on the sign, but don't actually have any of their cameras for sale. Any help would be great Smile

don't waste your time and money on a pentax. If they're hard to find there's a reason for that. Good luck finding someone to buy your used pentax when u want to upgrade, or finding used lenses or even new lenses. Get a Nikon or Canon, the world standards.

I've used Pentax for nearly 20 years, they're just fine.

Being hard to find is a weak argument. Plenty of quality cameras are hard to find, heck there are some fantastic cameras that go for around $16,000 USD, you're not going to be able to walk into any shop and find them.

Yeah of course Hasselblads and the like are harder to find and more expesnive, but you're talking about film or medium format digital cameras for that price...world's away from a Pentax DSLR. Pentax has been and still is way behind in the DSLR world.

Sorry, just to clarify, I was only referring to Pentax's DSLRs. Their film cameras are perfectly fine. I was assuming you meant digital. I have nothing against their film cameras.

And what exactly do you have against their digital cameras?
I don't personally use them, but I know they're a top brand.

Quote:
Pentax was a premier maker of film cameras. In the digital age, Pentax survives on the backs of its devout fans. This company makes all kinds of cameras with varying degrees of success, but their K-series dSLRs are excellent. In a fair world, they'd garner widespread recognition, but those who know the secret can reap the benefits.

I don't have anything against their digital cameras, I was just saying if you are going to buy one, you'd be better off buying a Nikon or Canon simply for the fact that there are more a)service centers, b)other people to buy used gear from, c)other people to sell used gear to etc...
Basically Pentax has no real positives over Nikon or Canon so why go for Pentax? Not to mention their lenses are really lacking in all categories.

This is crazy talk. Canons and Nikons are great cameras, but so are Pentax's. Want a real positive of Pentax? The same mount for the last 40 years (as has Nikon). No "does it take EF? How about EF-S?" foolishness. Amazing glass on everyone's grandfather's closet shelves is just sitting there waiting to be used on a modern digital body. In the last month I've bought through Ebay a great collection of Sigma, Tamron and Ricoh/Mamiya lenses (including a mint condition 50mm f1.7) for around $15 a piece. It's not so easy for Canon owners to use classic lenses.

Canon has a much better selection of new lenses at a much more reasonable price than new Pentax. But if you want to use interesting, classic glass for cheap, like East German Zeiss (Jena) M42 lenses, Pentax is your camera. And - best of all - any these lenses become stabilized through the in-body anti-shake system, which is good for at least a couple of stops.

At the end of the day, the tools don't matter. It's the quality and artistry of the pictures we take. To most people, the output of a DSLR from Olympus or Canon will look great, and indistinguishable from a Nikon or Pentax.

What does matter is the price.
