|
|
Out here in the boonies, that typhoon did lots of damage. Trees, signs, the metal roofs of the farmers houses, etc... My school not only had the power out, had trees and lots of other stuff fall, but the podium aluminum/plastic sun roof (where the principal stands to address the students on the exercise field) was blown uphill several hundred feet. The only thing that stopped it from crashing into the school building was the fact an ancient pine tree got trashed while it was in the way and stopped it. Real mess all around. Spent the day helping clean up and the power finally came back on in my apartment after more than 12 hours off.
Fortunately, these only hit Korea every 5-10 years. I was in Koje-do in 2003 when a really bad typhoon hit the Pusan-Masan-Koje area. Power was out for 5 days or so. It was a REAL mess.
So, how did your school/apartment fare? |

My school?
Try my town. Most every sign was blown down or twisted into scrap metal. Every advertising banner was torn off and blown who knows where. Those roll down metal doors...many were twisted so badly they couldn't be rolled back up or down. In my apartment building about 40 windows were smashed by the sheer force of the wind. And that is just one out of five. The maintenance people were working until six o'clock just to sweep up the glass.
Power was off from about 4 AM to 7 PM. |

I went to bed in Seoul, and woke up in a field in Gyeonggi-go. I was lucky to be alive. |

bundang-gu.bundang-dong. we lost a lot of trees and signs. I woke up to the sound of a loud crash, looked outside, saw lots of wind and rain, went back to bed. got up to go to work, poor little matiz had the window from the hallway THROUGH the roof. Not much SERIOUS damage though, just the random thing like that. |

In Incheon, there was a bit of wind between 5.30 and 6.30 am, some small branches blew off trees, and there was a bit of rain. I think my area escaped the worst of it. Quite a let-down really. |

I heard that a few buildings in Incheon were damaged, but my area seemed okay. Just wet. |

a tree came down near my school and blocked half of the road for the day, plus a cable was on the ground too. lots of leaves and branches in the neighbourhood. |

My school had no power all day, so classes were cancelled. Yay!
But we also had no internet. And after my laptop died at 11am it was a loooong wait until 4:30pm. Boo! |

My school lost some roof tiles and one window got shattered because of said roof tiles flying through the air. That was it, not really a big mess.

My school lost electricity for a few hours. Other than that most of the damage was around town with signs and tree branches down everywhere. It could have been worse, though. |
