I've been playing since Shogun.

I've actually been avoiding putting Windows on my new MacBook Pro for the express reason that I know I would proceed to sit down with Total War in every free moment available to me while proceeding to gain 30 pounds of Pizza Hut and MacDo.

Fact that it was Rome Total War that brought more people into playing Total War series and not to mention it was the highest selling Total War game compared to any other TW games, it needs more recognition and they should make a sequel out of it.

The scale of shogun total war was an eyesore compared to any other Total War game battles.

There is only so much one can do with the Warring States period of Japan, besides wasn't that the first TW game that came out ?

I'm pissed at the prejudice shown by the designers. In both Medieval Total Wars, you can't even play the Mongols or the Timurids !! WTF?!? Why do I have to mod my game for that?

No need to go through your post history. I've read the board long enough and I've lived in Japan so I tend to read Japan-related posts....which oddly seem to have a certain character in many of them.

For the American Civil War, at the tactical level, I would recommend Take Command: 2nd Manassas and Gettysburg: Scourge of War (By related developers). From what I understand the game has been fan-modded for Napoleonic style combat as well.

As a Civil War tactical game, both are solid, though artillery is a bit off for the Civil War era, as arty is more offensive in this game. But that's great for Napoleonic era gamers.

I'm not much of a video game player but ever since Shogun during my uni days, I've been hooked on the Total War series. Rome is by far my favorite but I do miss the little cinematics of assassins and diplomats even the shoguns war room and geisha/ninja videos were great. It was a nice little break/distraction from the gameplay. Any ideas or good sites for downloading Empire and Napoleon would be great!
