I'm not much of a video game player but ever since Shogun during
my uni days, I've been hooked on the Total War series.
Rome is by far my favorite but I do miss the little cinematics of assassins and diplomats even the shoguns war room and geisha/ninja videos were great. It was a nice little break/distraction from the gameplay.
Any ideas or good sites for downloading Empire and Napoleon would be great! |
Shogun was awesome. Of course, you can't compare the gameplay with the others, because it was the first.
But the music and general ambiance was really cool.
Actually, Shogun was based on a board game. Or was it the other way round? At any rate, there was that feudal japan board game from the makers of axis and allies. Remarkable similar strategic game, but without the tactical battles obviously.
Let's have some ideas about how the remake could actually be improved over, say a mtw2 japan mod?
- more in-depth unit weapon/armor/appearance customization
- improved unit experience
- better in-battle representation of significant characters
- cool animated sword fighting moves
- small unit castle infiltration/assassination "battles"
- you get to kill tom cruise
Did anyone play the Middle Earth RTW mods? |

| Here's Genghis Khan 2 as abandonware. You can play from young Temujin ruling over his clan at the Onon River to Eurasian conquest. |
I've played Genghis Khan from Koei since 1990 on Amiga. Anything to do with Mongols, i've played, but thanks for that.

There is only so much one can do with the Warring States period of Japan, besides wasn't that the first TW game that came out ?
I'm pissed at the prejudice shown by the designers. In both Medieval Total Wars, you can't even play the Mongols or the Timurids !! WTF?!? Why do I have to mod my game for that?
Mongol Conquest Now ! |

Because the campaign map stops at the Urals and the Mongols and Timurids weren't anywhere near Europe in 1080. They would have had to go really historically inaccurate in order to include the Mongols as a playable faction, or expand the campaign map to the point that China, India, and Japan would have been included as well. Not to mention it would have been a ridiculously overpowered faction. |

| What was the other KOEI game that was like Genghis II but you could conquer the world, spend time with your wives and have babies with them?. I think you could start as one of four kingdoms, England, the Byzantine Empire, the Mongols and someone else. That game was great, a lot of good times were spent playing that. |

| I know this is a little off topic but you know what I have been rocking in my free time at work? The original X-com. Man, I'd love a quality upgrade of that. I know they are making a new one but it seems to be gutting the original concept |
