That's what they told me to do. Perhaps it depends on who you talk to there.

Schwa, me old bud: If you have just three months left on the passport, then you can't go anywhere; they won't let you in. You'll have to endure the mindless bureaucrats at the embassy on their time, not yours, which means you'll have to lose a day or two of pay to get there and back. The good news is that they'll mail the new one to you when it's done. Five more years! Cheers.

Hey coolsage. No plans to head anywhere in the interim but in fact I left & returned last month with 3 & a half months validity left & no one commented.

I'm reconciled to heading over to Seoul & having some fun of it. Thanks all for your input.

I'm sorry, Schwa, I misspoke. Yes, you can go anywhere with less than six months on your passport provided that you have a return ticket.

Not unless your ID was extremely dodgy or nonexistent, & even then I'd think they'd be obliged to come up with some kind of temporary provisional documentation for you. Why do you ask?

Out of curiosity I guess. Well, since I have been here I havent paid taxes to the Canadian government but I have absolutely zero residential ties to Canada. On the check list for secondary and primary links, I have only one, my passport (a secondary tie), so for all intensive purposes I am a non resident of Canada. Just wondering though. I had no problems when I extended my passport though.

Both Russia and China will not issue visas to anyone who has less than 6 months validity on their passport.
