I saw an add for a postion at Duksung Uni so thought I would apply. I followed the links to the appropriate webpage but when I clicked the "apply" button nothing happened. I tried it in firefox and IE. Has anyone else had this problem? Maybe it is a method of weeding out the indesiribles.

many university (mainly the big ones) are like that. They only give you a certain number of days of an open window to complete the application online.

Be aware though that unless you have a masters degree or a Bachelors with years of university teaching experience you maybe waisting your time. I am not saying it is impossible for positions in Seoul but unless you have an inside contact it is a struggle up hill. Apply for the experience of filling out the forms but many will attest that it is near impossible to even get a look in.

If you fit the category of non-masters degree may I suggest you look outside of Seoul in the provincial (country) areas. That was my experience anyway. I spent a year at a country university. Isolation is bad and you spend a lot of money on taxi's as public transport is limited. I am currently working on my masters in tesol and for the fall application period I applied for every position going. Thinking that a year under my belt and partial completion of my masters would help didn't even get me a look in.

But eventually, I was lucky to get a position at a university in Seoul through contacts. That helped me get my foot in the door. It was up to me to demonstrate what kind of teacher I was through a demo lesson.

To give you an example, Hongik gets about 400 applicants. If you don't have a masters they will put you to the side immediately. I know a number of people working in different universities in Seoul and they have told me that their department has now a strict policy on employing only those with masters.

If you don't live too far away you could perhaps drop in to the uni and try and meet whoever does the hiring, or one of the existing instructors for some tips. (And if you make a good impression, this will help you immensely.. )

An inside contact would be very helpful. Most of the instructors at my uni do not have MAs, but they all got the job through contacts. Contacts don't have to be good friends.. timing is important too. We had someone leave last minute at our uni and she ended up being replaced by someone a coworker had met in a bar the night before. The person was a BA holding hagwan worker who'd been in country about 6 months. Our uni has had about 3 people in a similar situation. They happened to be decent people despite a lack of experience or qualifications. They wouldn't have been recommended if they hadn't made a good impression, but still.. uni jobs are possible without MAs or even experience.

The advertised jobs are probably much harder to get.. so many more applicants.

I'm going to apply anyway. It's good practice. I am starting my MA Tesol this year and have 4 years experience. I'm realistic about my chances but I will apply and see what happens.

Just read on the application information page:

1. Online application form & Introduction & Research List(Applicants for Political Sciences only)
(Print out)

2. Recommendation

3. A copy of foreigner registration card and passport information page

4. Diploma(the last one), transcripts(including every degree), certificates for one's career and
current work experience

* Only original document will be accepted.
In case that you want to submit a copy, please bring it with the original for
verification.

Do they honestly expect people to send them their original diplomas? I guess they really want people to submit the documents in person.
