|
|
So I'm going to have a few months of downtime and I'm thinking about doing a full-time Korean Language Program for a term.
Has anybody else done this?
I know there are four universities that offer a similar program, Sogang, Yonsei, Kyoung Hee, and Hunkuk University of Foreign studies,
I was wondering if anybody has experience with any of these programs...what would you recommend.... what (if any) certifications do you get after completing a term... etc.
Any help would be appreciated, thanks. |

I've been looking at doing it too, and the vast majority of the recommendations I get are for Sogang's program. |

I went to Yonsei for 3 semesters.
Yonsei is good, but its really for students attempting to enter a Korean Uni. Because they really stress the importance of grammar, reading and writing. It also moves at a fairly quick pace.
If you are just looking to Speak Korean at a higher level, Sogang might be better for you. They focus more on the speaking aspect.
After finishing a level at Yonsei, you get a certificate of completion that you passed that level. Probably the same at Sogang. |

Which is good if, like me, you might need to try to convince a damned university back home to waive your foreign language requirement. I'm doing distance classes at NCSU right now and they want me to take Spanish while I'm here, since they don't offer Korean online or on campus. I don't want to speak Konspanglish.
Optik - Did you get the student visa with them? I'm not here as a teacher and so I'm on consecutive tourist visas. I'd like to get a student visa so I don't have to leave every 90 days, but I don't have my transcripts etc. with me in Korea. |

I'm also curious about this! My girlfriend wants to come for about 7 or 8 months, and we were wondering if there was a better way than running for visitor visas....
If not, has anyone had a problem getting 3 visitor visas in a row?
Thanks! |

Yonsei is better for getting a wide knowledge of the language. They cover all the 4 skills. I had a really good experience there, just wished they allowed a little more time for speaking, with some speaking activities, constructive based tasks.
Sogang is good if you will be short time and want to focus on improving your speaking ability. |

Try this website and see if it works. I really like this website.
As of 5 years ago there was a program near Sukmyung University that taught Basic, Intermediate and Advanced Korean through donations of 1000 or more won per student.
Try this link first and let me know if this works for you
http://korean.sogang.ac.kr/
Hope this helps |

I've heard Yonsei sucks (a lot of people on this board agree too in previous threads). All schools cover the four skills by the way, haha Yonsei is not special in anyway. |

I can only talk about my experience there, which was great. I am in no way trying to advertise the program, but I learned a lot and had some great teachers. |
