Home Inn. or Seven Days Inn. Good, cheap hotels. Clean and all over the city. Plus internet access in every room if you have a laptop. I personally find hostels to be disgusting so I cannot recommend any. |

Emperor guest house, it is round the corner from Tienanmen square, and is close to a thousand small restaurants, near both the main shopping street, and the street market, and 5 mins fro a metro station. Plus it has a covered courtyard with an awesome table tennis table. Find it at hostel world.
oh yes and it claims to be an old home of a past emperor of China! |

This is where I stayed last spring when I went to Beijing. Family run. Really nice people who speak English. Organized a day tour for my friends and I where we go to tour a residential area and go a local kindergarten to play with the kids. Also organized an acrobat show.
Good common area for breakfast and beers at night. Highly recommended. |

If you are after quiet and relaxed combined with convenient I really liked the Peking Yard Hostel. It is right by Zhangzizhong Lu Subway Station, which is literally 2 minutes from the door step of the place and is down in one of the Hutong so you can get that Beijing Cliche out of the way. If you want to party or socialize though the 365 Inn has a great bar and restaurant in the bottom where you can do that. It is also pretty well located to the tourist stuff and QianMen Subway station just a short walk south of Tianamen Square. I also heard good things from a friend about the Happy Dragon Hostel. All three of these we found on Hostelworld.com. Good place to check out imo. |
