The train goes direct Pyongyang to Beijing? How long is that ride? I presume there's no southern entry/exit for foreigners.

Make sure you take lots of photos and post the results here, we're all interested.

Its 22 hours direct I believe.

Also, how much is the trip?

I paid 2300 Euros for the ten day trip.

You could live like a king for about 4 months on a beautiful beach in Thailand for that much. But whatever, if you want to blow your money that way, go for it. That just sounds unbelievably expensive for me.

And since nobody answered...What are the mass games?

One can only do so much of a beach in Thailand. They're lovely and all, but there's more to travel than that (and I'm not even defending the travel to NK, as I still haven't made up my mind on it). On the Thai beaches, people just sit around with a bunch of other backpackers eating bad pad thai.

Anyways, don't you have Google?

You are crazy if you want to go to North Korea now. They killed 46 sailors for no reason and have one american in prison for crossing the border. If more sanctions are passed soon, you might be a bargaining chip! Enjoy the prisons there, all they need to do is say you are a spy and dont expect western due process of law. No way would I go there now.....but thats just me.

I went there this time last year. I concur that the Arirang games are the most spectacular human performance you WILL ever see in your entire life.

2012 - Pyongyang. That will be a big one as it is the 100 year birthday of Kim Il-Sung.

It's not held every year, so if you get the chance, you should do.

It is possible to go alone, I did. It was much more intense but I did get to choose where I wanted to go, which for me, was worth the extra expense.
