Just wondering if there were any Magic the Gathering players in Seoul? I have tons of magic cards but no one to play against?
Anyone? |

You....brought them with you?
Anyway, I used to play a ton of TCGs too, but the scene is scant here, for some reason or another.
It's strange, because you think it'd do so well, too.
Anyway, good luck.
Post it if you find anything. |

I have a few friends that play here, but most prefer playing extended or legacy. Trying to find people that like drafting or standard. |

I did an M11 draft before I left and brought some of those cards with me. Not sure if I'd take the trains all the way to Seoul for a day of drafting though. |

Well, there is a pre release for scars of mirrodin.
I don't actually live in Seoul (I'm in Bundang), but that's kinda where the shops are at. |

you guys play online also?
I used to only play in person, but the benefit of finding a new random opponent at anytime of the day/night is just too good to pass up. |

I do play online, but I'd rather play the paper version. I like to play opponents face to face, it's more fun and it costs just as much.
I look at it this way, if you draft and pull a Baneslayer, you can sell it right off the bat to a player here for about 25K-30K. If you got the same pull online, you're lucky to get 15 bucks. The depletion value online is too great, but magic online is great for EDH and Momir. |

Where are these 'shops'? I've been itching to play some form of TCG lately, and would love to find a shop or two.
Any info is good info.
Also, how did you find them? All I ever see are 만화방s. |

There are two major stores I know. There's also one deep into Seoul, near Jogno or something but I dont' know if it still exists.
Anyway, one shop is called Michaels and it's right off of Gangbyeon. I really like the store because everyone there is really friendly and they speak English pretty well. They do drafts nearly everyday and if you just want to play with your friends, it's totally okay. Awesome store!! It's on the basement floor across the street from Techno Mart.
The other shop is called Tic Tok. They will likely have any card you will want, but expect to pay a lot more. I never got a welcoming feel there and they charge you to play if you don't join tournaments. I used to go regularly, but hardly anyone is around and they rarely do drafts during the week.
I'm for some reason, really into this Scars set, so I'll be at the prerelease in two weeks. If you want any information, need cards, or whatever, let me know. I definitely don't mind helping people into the fold. |

Hey, glad to see the info about a place to play other than Tic Tok. I didn't necessarily get the "not welcome" feel from Tic Tok, but it's in a weird location and honestly it's just too far to go to for a Friday night Draft. The drafting is really rushed just because everyone has to take off for the subway. Gangbyeon sounds much better. |

It's just a vibe I get from the owner at Tic Toc.
Anyway, the drafts run continuously at Gangbyeon, from about 6pm to 9pm. They are definitely not rushed and although most of the players are Korean; they're a lot nicer than some foreigners I've played with (who are generally, uber Spikes).
Scars should be fun; last prerelease went from the end of Friday night until the end of Saturday, continuously (I mean from 5-7, 8-11, 12-3, 7-10, etc.) |

unfortunately I didn't bring my magic cards with me. maybe we can meet up at a cafe or something with our laptops and play MTGO together, kinda like a mini LAN party. if you guys aren't into that maybe we can meet up and go to draft together at that store in Gangbyeon.
How do you guys play with Korean cards? I used to play everyday and spend all my free time reading about it so by then I had memorized the portrait on every card. But now, I don't know any of the new card sets after Odyssey block. |

That's because all the rule changes after 4th edition and Tempest ruined the game. |

Actually they kinda reverted rules once again. Post M10 they changed combat so that damage no longer goes on the stack. In the end, it's really small potatoes; a lot of 2-1 deals are done.
About the cards: Korean cards will never see print again. They're all in English, as they are throughout Asia (except China and Japan).
Also, if anyone needs any help with cards or making a deck or wants to join me on draft or EDH (probably the most fun format), let me know. So far, I only have a few people for EDH, but would definitely like to have more. Nothing like soju and magic slinging. |

Clearly the place at gangbyeon looks best, but I'd still like the see what the other stores have in terms of other games etc.
Anyone have any info on the tic tik place? |
