I am in the market for an entry level DSLR. I am thinking of getting the Cannon 550.

I recently got it priced up. The Yongsan average is 950,000 including a basic lens. However, I went a place in Bupyeong (Incheon), and they quoted me around 1100, 000 average for the same package. So why the price differential? The guys at Bupyeong said that the Yongsan market guys regularly sell reconditioned or show room floor models back to people on the sly with the customer thinking they are getting a brand new camera.

To me, this sounds like salesman garbage. Anyone heard this before?

Can it happen = yes.
Does it regularly happen = no.
part of the price differential are grey market cameras vs local market cameras and warranty.

is a good place to start - Dave is (or was) an active member here and an SLR/DSLR photographer.

I had a Korean friend tell me this, but I've bought lenses and such at Yongsan and never had any issues.
With so many sellers, there's bound to be some shady ones, but overall it's not a bad place to shop.

ttompatz is right about the warranty, that does figure into the price.
