You know when I was, say, 17 or 18 and just exiting high school and dealing with acne, I always envisioned a time when I neared my mid-20s that I'd not have to worry about acne anymore. As if my body would have then found a way to manufacture the proper chemical balance or produce antibodies capable of lessening or eliminating the problems altogether.
But, here I am at 24 and still having the same problems. My acne is certainly not severe, but annoying enough for me to consider it to need some attention. I've had some luck using different treatments, although I've never visited a dermatologist. I did attempt Proactiv, but because it was so expensive and at the time I had little money, I can hardly say I gave it a legitimate and lengthy try.
Any suggestions? Any luck with certain products? I'm fully aware that an individual's skin is different and thus reacts differently, but some products have reputations of being generally better. And, I know nothing about products offered in Korea, whose people seemingly have absolutely no problems with acne. Gah, whenever I come to school or go to a coffee shop with anything resembling acne on my face, I get these worried looks as if I'm hurt or having some kind of medical problem. They don't seem to understand. |

| Haha, the diet angle is obviously in good intention, but it assumes also that I have some type of weight or diet problem. My diet includes a regular mix of apples, oranges, grapefruits, muesli, fish, lots of water, milk, eggs, and tuna, and I exercise regularly and intensively. I say the following to detract from the direction the thread is leaning towards: I'm in quite excellent shape. |
A diet is a food regimen aimed at treating a condition, in this case acne. I honestly wasn't assuming that you're overweight, nor trying to say that you should lose weight. I know very well that one can be fit and have acne. A lot of foods that are considered by most to be healthy can cause excess water retention in the skin, which pinches off pores, and thus cause acne. Milk is one of them, for example. Starchy, fibrous carbohydrates such as muesli are another. Cooked eggs are another. Salt, too. You get the idea. |

For me, digestion is the key to keeping relatively spot free. I may usually have a couple on my neck or one trying to make a break for it on the end of my nose.
If I have bad digestion for a day or two, trouble can be just around the corner. A natural meal (nothing too processed) and water/green tea before bed, and big cups of coffee or tea in the morning.
Another thing which helps greatly is the yin and yang of my diet.
Two many warm/hot foods like coffee, chocolate, fried stuff and alcohol can cause your body to heat up (even if eaten cold) and this heat gets released through your head causing head problems like allergies and acne.
Take note of when things are worse, and note how you last ate and how was digestion.
Try a 16-24 hour fast and see how you feel or try a simple diet and partial fasting for a day. If you like foods which cause your face to heat up, try to limit them to one a day, and try to balance with some cooling foods like vegetables and fruit.
I wish I knew what I practice now when I was younger, as acne really depressed me and was a huge stumbling block in life. |

My acne isn't SEVERE, but I do know that my skin is picky about which cleansers I use. Use the wrong one and my face is blackhead and pimple central. It took me awhile to find the right one.
My supervisor suggested I used Garnier (I can't remember the exact name, but I know they're in blueish green bottles). They're alcohol based, but they really cleaned up my skin. One was a foam cleanser, and the other is the kind you put on cotton pads to wipe off (yeah, I suck. I forgot the name)
In Korea I used some kind of brand from the Missha. Some kind of foaming cleanser. Also worked nicely.
For the more severe acne... I guess I'd just listen to everyone else here. |

I heard regular sex keeps the acne away. Something about keeping the hormones in check/balance. Myth Busters should do an episode on this.

The Acne Regimen. This place has been around for years, even before Proactiv and way cheaper. 3 step process: wash, treat, and moisturize. The treatment is Benzoyl Peroxide. Read his story - he was basically tired of high priced Benzoyl peroxide in small amounts so he went to a manufacturer and started producing his own line. If you have moderate acne it works if you stick to it.
https://www.danielkern.com You can order the products here and they ship to Korea. Of course you don't need to order from there as BP, soap, and moisturizer can be found anywhere, but he specifically made large-bottled BP for those that want to save money. |

No tips, just want to say I can relate.
My skin was pretty good back home, but I have been getting more zits around my mouth and on my right cheek. I think stress can be a big thing for me as it came on just as I was beginning my new job.
Also I'm in that nasty little cycle of covering it up with too much makeup thus clogging the pores and needing to wear more makeup.
I'm working to do what I did back home: reduce dairy and white grains. Also need to remember to drink more water at work. I think I should use a makeup remover at night instead of just scrubbing with my usual pore scrub. Any suggestions? |

| Ask for topical sodium sulfacetamide. It's an older medicine but it completely cleared up all the little bumps on my face without any side effects other than a bit of dryness. It helped my sister, too, when nothing else did. You're only supposed to use it for 2-3 weeks at a time, though. |

| I've never had acne anywhere other than my back, and no matter what I do I don't know how to get rid of it. I drink about 2 liters of water a day, bath regularly, etc. Any tips or advice? Will apple vinegar help? |

Why not spend the money and go see a dermatologist?
It could eventually save you time and money down the road. |

I went on Accutane last year and it changed my life. Most doctors in Korea prescribe much lower doses than in North America, and that cleared me up without giving me any side effects besides dry skin and hair. I took 20-30mg a day for 6 months. Check out the acne.org messageboards for more information. Keep in mind that Accutane is a serious drug and I recommend it as a last resort, but it did work for me.
|
I've heard Accutane is now illegal in Canada because it has too many side effects. There are even commercials on TV advertising lawyers to file lawsuits on behalf of former Accutane users who have developed Irritable Bowel Syndrome, and other permanent medical conditions.
I too was on Accutane years ago, and it did help me (after trying practically every perscription acne medication on the market), but it never fully cleared up my skin. I've never had terrible acne or anything but enough so that it was a nuisance. I don't think Accutane is the final answer to good skin, imo. |

OP!
I'll tell this to everyone with acne. It's the perfect solution, that works without fail. It doesn't cost any money, and it's extremely simple.
Drink more water. Drink 4 liters a day. Drink water all the time, so your urine is clear every time you pee.
I promise, in three weeks you won't have acne anymore.
It worked for me, it will work for you. I've been acne-free for 10 years. |

Not everyone is the same, obviously.
But, water is a cure all for many things. Headache, acne, broken ankle, obesity, hives, stomach ulcer....drink water.
Seriously, stop eating shI+, exercise (so you sweat) and drink water. |
