I just wrote a blog post about Zacharia, a young Kenyan man who got accepted to the Gallaudette school for the deaf in the states but needs help / funds.

I know people don't want to contribute to "anonymous" causes but this is anything but. Mike Marzio (or real-english videos) and myself have know and corresponded with him for some time. Just time to do something for him instead of standing around with our thumbs up our .....

So, please take a visit and learn about Zach. If each person gives 10 bucks, it won't take too many of us to make a big difference. Or just pass on the info. to others who might help - that's helping.

The direct site Mike set up for Zach is http://zachs-fundraiser.blogspot.com/

I'll be calling in some favors including a list of guys who owe me cash (if you are reading - best way to settle a debt!).

Cheers,

DD

If everyone would give me ten bucks ......

Governments are responsible for social programs, I am responsible for my family.

I have a fundamental disbelieve in donations. Is he ever going to give that money back? If so, why not get a loan.

A government asks for taxes, so supporting promising students is advantage for a government since it improves overall society.

For the individual it is simply not.

There's probably a whole load of places and resources for students with disabilities in Kenya. I'm sure that the Kenyan government also has huge amounts of financial resources to help people with disabilities too Rolling Eyes Typical Dave's attitude. Seems like a good cause, OP. I'm only too willing to help with a donation.

Thanks for all the replies.

Randall - will do! Most important thing, even more so than the $$ directly, is getting the word out.

Juergen - you are entitled to your opinion but I'm not with your logic. It would take too long to outline "why" here but suffice to say that I understand hesitance to donate to organizations. However, that shouldn't be the case with individual assistance. Nor a guy trying to help himself.

Morrison and by default Juergen - you don't understand what being both poor and disabled means in a third world country. I do hope your comments were satirical.

I'll say point blank. I too was hesitant to ask others to donate. I don't ask a penny for my years of work in education nor helping teachers. I do it because it is good. It helps me to be better. That more than just the very valid reasons to help Zach - is why I hope others will donate. I'll leave it at that.

I talked to Mike (who we all benefit from - please use his Real-English videos http://real-english.com for teaching) for a few months and he communicated his relationship with Zach and that Zach is real, genuine and a guy trying to raise himself up. That's why I agreed to use any outreach I've got to support.

Sarah, from The Daily English Show, will have a nice video coming out about Zach. Stay tuned, I'll post. Will be more personal.

Thanks anyone for the love, help. Forgive my long reply.

Visit Zacharia's facebook page too

Cheers,

David
