I think you are usually right, but I also think if an animal has decided no holds barred he is going to eat you or die trying, the animal is going to succeed. ! |
If it's a coyote against me, the only thing the coyote is going to succeed at doing is dying.
Now if it were a bull mastiff or some other similar sized dog then yes, maybe. |
Sure. |
I outweight a coyote by more then 4x. Plus their only weapons are their teeth which they have to get in close to use. I have 2 hands and 2 feet, both which can be used to keep it out of range. If worst comes to worst, shove one arm into its mouth to keep it busy, while grabbing the windpipe with the other hand and crushing it. And out in the wild, there are plenty of stones and sticks which can be used to keep it at bay or injure it enough to drive it off.
It's not like it's the first time I've taken on some enraged canine anyway. And coyotes aren't that big. Now if it were a pack, that would be a different story. |
Sounds like a lovely game plan. |

You've taken on a coyote? Cool. Where abouts? And crushing a canine trachea, that must take some pretty impressive grip strength. But considering you are a woman who weighs nearly 200 lbs I guess if anyone has it, it's you. |

Not a coyote, an Alsatian. And like most mammals the trachea is made out of soft cartilage, which is not that difficult to crush.
Nor am I a woman, I'm a full-grown man and avid weightlifter. Given that a coyote is smaller and weaker than an Alsatian, I'm not terribly concerned about a one on one encounter. |

It takes approximately 33 pounds to crush a human trachea (google). Cartilage is harder to crush than bone because it is more flexible. I fully believe you shoved your hand in the mouth of an attacking dog and choked it. However, please clarify: You killed it by crushing its trachea with one hand (presumably not your dominant hand as that would have been occupied with your initial defense)? I'm Scullying this, but I'll take your word for it if you say so. |

What do you know, so do you. And so do most people. Because animals rarely fight people. They threaten people, bite them, very very occasionally savage them but they don't stand toe to toe with people and throw down. Because nature doesn't play. Most people can out-bluster an animal because an animal will usually back down if you show enough dominance. We really don't have a good idea of how dead we can get which makes us brave, and animals don't have a very good health care system, which makes them cowardly.
I've been bitten by dogs, rats, cats, mice, gerbils, snakes, lizards, parrots, chinchillas, a fox (he was just playing) rabbits, kicked and bitten by horses and ponies, mounted by a llama (that was odd), butted by a goat, charged by a bull, and used as a scratching post for a very domesticated moose. I've fed mountain lions(they have teeth the size of my pinky), wolves, coyotes, otters, seals, foxes, porcupines, deer, bears, skunks, raccoons, emus, etc. I live in the country, near farms and forests and I worked at a wildlife park. But somehow I managed to avoid getting into one fight with any of them. I guess I just don't make them angry. |

I killed an ostrich in a fight once. I was just trying to wrestle with it and I think it got freaked out and had a heart attack. I was worried the ownders were going to make me pay for it but they didn't see and I told them I found it that way. |

33 lbs is nothing. Captain of Crush hand grippers (the No.2) require 195 lbs to close. I've done that.
I crushed something in its throat...I'm assuming it was the trachea because it thrashed for a moment before dropping. I didn't see it coming and ended up on my back with it on top of me. It got a mouthful of parka (it was early wintertime) and I got a double handful of throat and squeezed. This was out back on a hiking trail so no one was around at that time to assist. |

| He looked feral. Skinny, mangy (I think). But I didn't stick around to take all that close a look...where there was one there may be more. |
