I am currently in Korea, and will be finishing my one year contract in 7 weeks. Furthermore, I am interested in staying another year and working at another school. Therefore, I need a new CBC, right? Can someone tell me how I can obtain the CBC while living here in Korea? Thanks in advance.

Look here and follow directions:
http://www.fbi.gov/hq/cjisd/fprequest.htm

Download fingerprint form and application form

Get fingerprints at PD and money order at bank

Post it express and write on the envelope something like "Please expedite I need for visa application"

Thanks Guava. Do I then take the CBC that I received from the FBI and take it with me to the Korean consulate in Japan along with my other documentation? or does the CBC need a special apostille or certification here in Korea?

You might be able to use a background check from South Korea.

I posted this is another forum, but check it out anyway.

If you are in South Korea, you'll need to go to your local/Gu police station and you'll beed to bring your Alien Registration Card and Passport.

You'll need to request the record check: 범죄사실증명서

If they ask for the purpose of the CRC, just tell them it is for personal purposes for private school positions and future job seeking.

Yes, but only until Jan 1 when the new FBI checks become mandatory.

Since the OP has been in South Korea, Korea police checks should suffice. Someone with more expertise please advise.

As you are going to be at the police station, at least get the finger prints for the FBI check to send later.

When you start your next job after Jan 1, the federal CRC, as well as the apostilled documents, can't be more than 6 months old.
