I'm traveling with my girlfriend during Chusok to Jeju, and we were wondering if we'd need a car the entire time we're there. Is there enough to do without a car if one is staying in Jeju City or Seogwipo? |

Need? It's more a question of WANT! Seriously, renting a car or scooter is cheap and easy. You don't even need a license. The coastal road is a HOOT to scoot or cruise along. Way, way more stuff to see and do with your own wheels. Trust me. I live here and have my own car and it's a riot. |

there's got to be details about this.
I went and rented a car (well, my girlfriend did since she's Korean and the one with a license). It was worth it; made things a lot easier. |

This is Korea. Are you shocked? Four out of five car rental places won't even ASK to see a license.
Here is a rental place which states it will rent to people WITHOUT a license in "rare" circumstances.

Still, a little shock. This seems like one of the rules that if caught, you could be in serious trouble, such as in an accident. It's usually the foreigner's fault anyways and if said foreigner doesn't have a license... |

Jeju Bike isn't open over Chuesok, they're heading to the mainland.
I got my Korean license by trading in my US one. Just need to remember to get it back when before I go to the US. Also made a copy of my US one to show more than 1 year driving experience (see some other threads). |
