Virginia has a state liquor monopoly. Gov't-run booze distributors are the only outlets for Virginian thirst.

As someone who comes from one of those states, NC, I have to say that it was annoying when the stores closed at 8 or 9pm.

Man, the blue laws in Tennessee and Mississippi were annoying enough (no liquor on Sundays, and, for a time, no cold beer ever); I can't imagine living somewhere were there's even fewer liquor stores that close that early. ...especially after coming to Korea. Every time I go back home to visit, I have to ask people every few days how much longer I have to make a beer or liquor run.

Had the Blue Laws in Mass (still do to some extent) from the Puritans. When I was in H.S./Uni you couldn't buy alcohol on Sundays, so we sometimes made runs to New Hampshire when we hadn't planned accordingly.
