Hi again everyone,

Okay, we just called immigration again to double-check everything; here are the answers we got.

The notarized copy or apostilled copy of diploma does go into effect today (July 15th).

If you are in Korea already, you can get a notarized copy of your diploma from the KCUE (Korean Council of University Education): http://cs.kcue.or.kr/

Both background checks and notarized/apostilled copies of diplomas are good for six months (after date of issuance on document).

If in Korea and renewing/transferring your visa, you will need a notarized or apostilled copy of your diploma; again, you can get the notarized copy from the KCUE.

We hope this helps.

This is still unclear.

I am in Thailand. I have original diplomas, what do I do when the EPIK hiring starts?

Ok the above immigration site says nothing about having to have an appostile for the FBI check, but when sending in your fingerprints and other things include a letter asking for an FBI stamp, otherwise I don't think they put it on. Check the FBI site out for yourself.

For you diploma, you have to have a copy, original of your degree certificate appostiled OR verified by your countries embassy in Korea (Seoul)

Right. I think that site is for the changes (an apostille has always been needed).

This site is a little more thorough: http://www.hikorea.go.kr/pt/InfoDetailR_en.pt?categoryId=2&parentId=382&catSeq=385&showMenuId=374&visaId=E2 and includes the requirement of Apostille.

Hi. I've read this entire thread, and still have a couple of questions. Would be great if someone could give me a definitive answer.

1. I have my original diploma with me here in Korea, can I take a copy of that KCUE and have it verified there? Will that keep me from having to send it home for notarization and apostille.

2. Does a criminal record check need an apostille? I know it needs notarization-I had it notarized while I was in the US a couple of weeks ago, but no apostille. Is that definitely needed now? (I used a CRC with only a notary from the embassy to get a job a couple of years ago.)

If someone can answer these definitively for me I can actually, you know, go back to trying to be employed!

I'm an American currently in California and looking to work again in Korea as a teacher in December or January.

In the meantime I plan to prepare my documents: BUT I am confused about the notorization/apostillled of original university degrees. I'm American but graduated from university from a school in London, England!~

How do I do that?~

Don't know about number one, but for number two, yes, definitely needs an apostille.

Send an email to your university and tell them you want a "notirized degree". They will know what you need. My school agreed to then send it on to the Sec. of State to get apostilled. I had to include a packet with a self addressed pre-paid FedEx envelope , with my request to have it sent back to me here in Thailand.

However, if you have not done it already, start with your FBI CRC first as that will take the longest to procees. I had my stuff to send to the FBI prepared in Bangkok, if you want some info about that, send me a PM.

Is it still true that you don't need transcripts? Because if you do, I think I'm out of a job.

On another note, if apostillisations are good for life, just like our degrees are, why does kimmi want our copies or our degrees to have been apostillised within the last month, three months, or six months? DOn't they realise how much time, effort, and money goes into having to send it back home every year just to get the apostilisation?!

Wait.

I thought, because apostillisations ARE good for life, kimmi WILL accept a notarized+apostilled copy of the diploma NO MATTER when it was done.

If it is the case that they can expire....could one submit it pre-emptively, as one could do with the FBI check, so that one does not have worry about timing when it comes to renew?

Maybe the 1, 3 or 6 months is only for the CBC?

That was my impression.

But who really knows. Like everyone keeps saying, these new requirements may evolve as they begin to be actively enforced.

6 months for the CBC. The apostille is good for years.

Just sent my degree that was apostilled in 2008 in and it was accepted by immigration as of yesterday.
