More than a dozen male high school and university students have been caught by police for operating multiple online community sites brokering sexual encounters between younger men and older women.
The Seoul Gangdong Police Station said Tuesday a 17-year old high school student in Busan, indentified by his surname Oh, and 13 other males were booked without physical detention on charges of violating the law banning prostitution and sex trafficking. Of the 14, seven were high school students and the rest of them were university students and salaried workers in their early 30s.
Police also shut down 120 community cafes on Daum, Naver and other local web portals, which introduced teenage boys to older women seeking to have sex with minors.
According to police, Oh and other individuals had opened online community sites since March and recruited members among adult women. They then brokered sexual encounters between adult females in their 20s, 30s and 40s and young men, mostly high-school and university students. Also, salaried workers in their 20s were among those looking to earn money by sleeping with older women. |
More at the site, where details about some 'rentboyz' treated like "pets" by their "master" adjumma. |

So the police go after male prostitution advertised via (slightly?) obscure internet sites, yet they can't manage to bungle their way down to Itaewon, Yongsan, or any of the hundreds of 여비서 or 마사지 joints scattered everywhere else? |

The department that handles cyber crimes might be different from the one that handles red light districts. But yeah, it's always seemed absurd to me how everyone knows where the red light districts are, yet they remain. |

Perhaps they realise it is better tolerated and open than underground. |

Bribes and who they might find there.
It's a matter of personal freedom anyway. I would hope they would just leave those people alone.
In this case there was obvious wrong doing, as some of the boys were under age. |

I wonder if there is a market for foriegners offering services to Adjumas.
I know they have it in Japan, hell there are even liscenced 'doctors' who have lists of western gigalos available as 'treatment' for Japanese housewives unfulfilled by their salarymen hubbies. |

I would think this is being handled by the same department, seeing as how they're being charged with "violating the law banning prostitution and sex trafficking;" the article may have it wrong, though.
Maybe the boys just didn't offer enough 서비스? |

I'm surprised the boys and adjummas didn't use Craigslist.
Ah well. There's still Rentboys.com, though business might be up since the "baggage handler" incident. |

Why??? Female hookers here seem to be able to operate without any problems. What's with the discrimination?! |

Double standards in Korea - that is why the police shut down the gigilo services recently. In a male dominated/male entitlement society like Korea, the men are allowed the pleasures of young skin but the women aren't. Double standards/gender inequality, unfairness, or whatever you want to call it.
That is just how it is. I remember a few years ago when some male- staffed room salons opened in Kangnam to service/service the affluent Korean women who frequented them. They were all closed down immediately. Yet the female-staffed prostitution places (of many different types) are allowed to flourish everywhere here. Go figure. Fragile egoed men can't be letting their wives/girlfriends get serviced by some hot and talented young stud(s). Double standards I tell you........ |
