I don't think I'm in league with any of you, as I played a few times with friends back home, but I would love to get together and have a few games! I don't have cards, but...let me know if you end up having an event!

actually there is a lot more magic going on then people think.

Michael - is I believe the new distributor for Korea. His store is small, but friendly.
TicToc - runs FNM and Saturday tournaments. Store owner is robbie. Childrens Grand park on the suway - exit Konkuk. Its much easier to find than Michaels. Google search bluemtg.com for a map.
Busan/Taegu - events are run
Yongsan Army Base Magic Club - does Saturday Tournaments (FNM/PRERELEASE etc.) for Soldiers and friends. Needs invite/voucher/id's for people off base because of regulations.
Humphries Army Base Magic Club (Pyeongtaek) - runs Sunday. Same as above.
There is one more place in Seoul at one of the University but I never went myself.

There are many players/tournaments in Korea. FNM's, Prerelease, release, game day, regionals, korean nationals, PTQ, etc.

PM if you have specific questions

I'm worried I'll get a lot of flak for this, but a buddy and I just print out cards and put them inside plastic sleeves in front of cheap commons. Allows you to make some nice decks w/o spending a fortune. Our rules are simple: type 1 (vintage i believe they call it now), no card that you couldn't reasonable afford (no moxes etc).

I had my cards stolen in high school and before then sunk a lot of money on this game. WotC has made plenty off me, so copying doesnt bother me. I don't sell them or pretend they're real (although they actually look real), and since deck building is more than half the strategy of magic, I'm happy with that plan.

To Daxdefranco: If you're up for any friendly games, let me know. I am meeting up with a few friends in Gangbyeon this Saturday and you're welcome to join. Just a fun, casual thing that I'm trying to get going, we are going to play EDH and drafting M11 later.

To Akrono: I think proxys are allowed, especially in vintage. I actually have a friend that plays legacy who's been desperate to find other legacy players, if you want to meet up let me know. With the skyrocket costs of cards now (a competitive ravnica deck with lands, odyssey tog deck, etc. costs less than a playset of Jaces The Money Sculptor), I don't blame anyone for trying to have fun in a cheap way.

To everyone else: I was planning a pizza preparty prerelease. Really informal, just a group of people getting some pizza, do some trades, and draft on the night Scars is released.

I know players who copy cards, Korean players have started and for testing it works well.

It is if you want to play in sanctioned events or not. Copies dont work then.

Magic has a lot of different types of players - casual to spike. Do what works for you.

But a lot of us miss the card shops at home, the ability to sit down and play physical games, the smell of freshly open pack on prerelease. There are places here to do that - you just need to look a bit and deal with their specific peculiarities.

Michaels - size, directions, mostly korean players, some spikes
TicToc - if owner doesn't like you, waiting for events, rushing, mostly korean players, some spikes
Base - access, rules, some spikes

To each their own

As far as I know, the place at Yongsan has closed.

I wouldnt mind a meetup. I live in seoul (mapo gu near hongdae) and work 1-8 ish. I'm not all that hardcore into magic, but I enjoy friendly games, and i'm an above average player.

The singles store that was at Yongsan closed. The club that runs tournaments is still running strong - 8 years running. 2 FNMs, Prerelease, release, game day, US Regionals, Standard, draft, sealed, edh, extended, etc. Saturdays 10:30 - 19:00 or so

Michaels - is friendly, has good prices and usually gives something to new players. More Open/Friday/Saturday/Sunday
Tic Toc - is a game cafe first. So tables have I think a 3000 won table fee. Tournaments its included, but to the casual player - it is little tricky. Robbie does have a lot of singles - his prices are higher than Michaels, but better selection. Friday and Saturday
Base Club - rotation of foreign players - soldiers etc. No store - just tournaments. Mix of Casual, Tournament, and Spike players. Strong EDH group. Only Saturdays

Korean players tend to net neck - then perfect. Trading of current tournament staple cards can be difficult. Legact, extended picking up - but they are printing the cards to test.

Foreign Players - can be spikey, if you run into the people trying to make the tour. But for the most part - good guys - some girls. And of like any game store - some cast offs.

Not sure about Tic Toc or the base, but Gangbyeon is actually open throughout the week and you can come by after work (if you don't work at a 2-10 hawgwon) to play a friendly game of draft. Trading is actually really easy and I always end up getting a few nice things.

Anyway, back on subject, I'm just trying to get a group of really cool players together - competitive or not. I know there are other shops, but Gangbyeon just tends to be the best. It may lack foreigners, but that is probably a good thing.

Anyway, send me a message. I'm planning on having a small get together for EDH or drafting this Saturday and if you need anything, let me know - i've accumulated waaay too many magic cards.

@the foreign players quote...that's funny. I've seen guys coming back from the Yongsan tourneys. Obviously like 30 years old, but still wearing Tool shirts. I don't want to be like that, although I don't mind occasional games.

tool shirt? What do you have against TOOL? You forgot the dragon shirt guy/ The 2NE1-wonder girls mark guy/The Cub Fans Guy or to put it simply:
GAMERS

Going by appearance gamers are not the most fashion forward, but there was a man purse or 2 that shows up.

It's a place to play, Michaels, too.

Next your going complain about the foreign players hygiene, or that they quote pop culture movies, or that advanced social skills with the opposite sex. Again they are:

Gamers

Please don't turn this into a flame thread.

Typing in large letters and bold doesn't help your cause.

B/O I can deal with. Some people can't help it. But Tool shirts? I think we're all out of highschool. Very Happy

Anyway, being a gamer and former Tool fan, I can say these things
