Hello! I recently received a potential job lead from a recruiter. It's for a Yale Language School in Dongdaemoon-gu, near Jongno.

Does anyone have any experience with this school in particular, or with any other YLS location?

This will be my first time teaching abroad so I want to make sure this is a good experience.

Thank you!

This hakwan has been around for years. There may be more than one, but I seem to recall one guy that runs a Yale school there that claims to have a PhD that he doesn't really have.

I have only dated, second-hand information for you, as I have never worked there. However, I DID get interviewed for that job a little over a year ago. They put me in touch via email with the previous foreign teacher, and he said that he liked it there, had no complaints. He worked there for two years as well.

The contract I was presented with wasn't bad, although I decided to pass on them when they said they wouldn't pay pension. National Health was in the contract though ("if you want it"), but I hear it is not an easy thing to sign a person up for it without also signing them up for pension, so I don't know if the Health Plan would have actually materialized.

I have read on this forum that the area that it is near is sort of a red-light district, and harassment of foreigner women was not unheard of (although hopefully uncommon). Look up a little about the area as well. When I have more time I will try to find that post.

But as far as the job goes, the guy who left one year ago was there for two years and indicated to me that he had no difficulty with them.

Take this for what it is worth, I'm just trying to help.

ALSO: This school is unaffiliated with the Yale schools in Daegu. The schools in Daegu have their own thread on this forum from a while back.

I also remember another thread from a year ago, but can't find it. Everything in these threads is from the past year, so it isn't exactly the distant past.

Ask to speak to teacher working there. Most hagwons have different owners so they will all be run differently. If its a big school, you can be guaranteed to be working your ass off. At least you wont get bored.
