Is it currently LEGAL to eat/raise dogs (for consumption) in Korea? |

It's probably illegal for PR reasons, but I see dog soup restaurants all over the place. The law doesn't mean much in Korea. |

I'm not sure about the legality, but a lot of my students often write or talk about eating dog. |

My co-teacher told me that it was LEGAL. I live next to several dogfarms and have recently heard the unmistakable sounds of dogs being killed in front of all the other dogs(loudly barking). WTF? In my world, dogs are companion animals, not a food source to be raised like rabbits in a cage and brutally killed intentionally in front of all the other dogs for some psycho-sadistic, ignorant belief that it enhances the taste of the meat. |

This is the one millionth time for this topic. In our world dogs are companion animals to be loved and cared for. In Asia they are often a food source. In our world elderly people are abandoned often dumped in nursing homes. In Asia elderly people are living treasures, who are revered and people welcome their presence. Killing dogs disgust many westerners, abandoning elders disgust Asians. Different cultures do things differently get it!!! |

Quote: |
Selling dog meat has been illegal in South Korea since 1984, as manufacturing and processing of dog meat have been outlawed. |
Quote: |
Although it is technically illegal to sell dog meat in Korea, some restaurateurs still do so, even though they risk losing their restaurant licenses. In 1997 one dog meat wholesaler in Seoul was brought up on charges of selling dog meat illegally. |
This brings me to believe raising dogs for food is no less illegal. |
