I keep hearing Seoul, Busan, and Itcheon (think I spelled it wrong)

For a guy in his mid 20's, whats a good place for diversity, good cost of living, fun, and to meet other foreigners?

Any suggestions my Korean experts.

By the time you sign your contract and get settled, it will be close to 2011. Why not start a new thread for 2011?

I would say Beijing, Shanghai, Hong Kong, Shenzhen, Fukuoka, Kyoto, Hanoi, Taipei, or Osaka. There are much nicer places in the area than Korea, in all seriousness. But if you insist on Korea, Seoul or Busan, maybe a Seoul suburb like Ilsan or Bucheon. that's about it.

Spelling is Incheon. Unless of course you mean Icheon, a small city east of Seoul, but I doubt you meant that.

yes, those three cities would be good. Also, big satellite cities around Seoul are a good choice for what you described. Bundang and Ilsan are the most well-known ones. I live in Ilsan and like it. There's plenty to do here, nightlife, a really nice big park, a fair number of foreigners (mostly English teachers; it's a young wealthy city so lots of demand for foreign English teachers), good transportation including subway lines and plenty of buses to different parts of Seoul. I've heard Bundang being described in a similar fashion.

As for diversity, there isn't much. This is Korea, one of the most homogeneous countries.

So cool? as in unfriendly? I find them a bit backwards really, noisy, abrasive, so I must be a snob yes?

That was awesome (just watched like three times laughing my ass off - I needed that).

If Scorsese saw that he'd say "Why didn't I think to use the Benny Hill theme song with sped up action for that scene - it's f'in genius!!".

sorry, brain fart, i was talking about seoul

I do love Busan! I lived in Gangnam for 2 years in a decent job/situation, but theres nothing I hate more than Seoul. maybe around 2000 or so it was better, but now its just too cutthroat and too pricey for what it is. Backwards? Well, busan doesnt have Kayne West flying in, or Greek food (for terrible prices), but it does have tons of atmosphere, nice people (backwards? friendly?), and enough good western food.

Seoul is a good choice for everything you listed except cost of living.

I've heard Busan is a lot of fun.

I'm a month into my 2nd year now and the crush of Seoul is beginning to annoy me. I'm from the burbs, went to college in a college town, and spent some time living in Charlotte and Seoul is evoking feelings of claustrophobia. But since it's your first year, it'll all be new and fun with lots of new places to see.

I've only been here about 10 days so far but i'm living just outside of Ilsan and I really like it here. It has everything and it's not too far from Seoul. So far I would reccommend this area, loving it so far.
