I just found out that my school is giving me Monday and Friday off next week and I'd really like to escape the city and do some camping. I'd like to avoid Chuseok traffic as much as possible so no Seoraksan for me, but I will be traveling on my motorcycle so anywhere around Seoul is cool with me. I also want to do real camping. I have all my own gear and want to avoid huts, cabins and pre-set tent campgrounds.

Can anyone recommend a good place to escape for a few days? Does Bukhansan allow camping? I have heard mixed responses.

Thanks for the help.

Since you are on motorcycle, you won't travel the highways most people will be on, because motorcycles aren't allowed on tollways. You can go using free public roads most won't people won't be using. My guess is you can road trip just fine with a good road map.

Motorcycles aren't supposed to be on expressways. There will still be heavy traffic on the national highways, especially highways out of Seoul.

Bukhansan has camping spots in some areas, but they are by permit only. My k-girl called to how to get a permit once and they told her "it's difficult" and would not provide any more info. So, screw giving them money, especially to camp 10 feet away from drunk ajossis. I'd hit the beach or river banks, camping is legal there and free.
