Ok I went to the Korean consulate to get my visa today. The lady told me that I was put down for a single entry visa, but I want to travel and will eventually need to change it to a multiple entry visa. I told my recruiter I wanted to get it changed to a multiple entry visa and she said I could do it in Korea. I just looked into how to go about doing that and it says it cost $30 and I hate to pay for something that could be taken care of now. The lady at the consulate told me she would hold my visa until I call her with the new info so she can stamp a multiple entry visa in my passport. What should I do? Tell my recruiter that she needs to fix this so I can get a multiple entry visa without having to pay $30 when I get to Korea? I'm kind of mad if she is just too lazy to take care of this and I'm going to have to pay for it. |

I think your recruiter told you wrong to start with.
The multiple visa is always the cost and responsiblilty of the teacher - never the employer or the recruiter. Surely $30 is not too much to expect to pay if you can get this stamp yourself before you leave?
Certainly all teachers from countries other than US can't get a multi entry visa put ina passport when they get your first visa stamp anyway!
I heard the USA was stopping issuing multi entry visas for E2 this year and no longer was the exemption continuing for Americans only
Anybody able to update on this? |

You must have misunderstood me. I've already paid to get my visa. I went to the consulate to interview and got approved today. They are going to mail it to me, but the lady at the consulate told me that I was put down for a single entry visa. She told me to talk to my recruiter so I can get my school to fix it so I have a multiple entry visa (at least that is what I got out of our conversation) My recruiter said I can just wait until I am in Korea to fix that which will cost me an extra $30. Does that make sense? |

I asked for, and received, a multiple entry E2 visa from the consulate in Atlanta. This was in July, so I assume nothing has changed in the past two months. |

Where are you from?
Americans automatically get multi-entry when the are issued an E-2 visa without paying extra.
If youre not American, you'll have to wait until you arrive to buy a single (30 000w) or multiple (50 000w) re-entry permit and you will have to pay for it.
You will go to immigration to get you Alien Resident Card (ARC) after you get your health check done not long after you arrive in korea. You can purchase the rentry permit when you apply for your ARC.
Don't worry about it now.

I'm from America. Why would I be put as single entry? |

You shouldnt be. If you were, it was a mistake. Also, if you dont even have it in your hands yet, how do you know it's single entry? Look on the sticker in your passport when you get it. If it has a 'M', youre multi entry. If it has an 'S', youre single entry and you'll have to pay for a re-entry permit.
If you can talk them into changing before you come here, you might be able to avoid paying the fee.

I went to the Korean consulate in Atlanta too. I'm not exactly sure what I'm supposed to do to get a multiple entry visa instead of a single entry visa. The lady said to talk to my recruiter/school to change something so I can get it as multiple entry. Ughh.. I'm just going to email the consulate and ask what exactly I need to do to fix this because I am getting confused. |

I haven't gotten my passport back yet. The lady at the consulate told me today that I needed to talk to my recruiter/school and have them change something so I can get a multiple entry visa instead of a single entry visa. Then I'm supposed to call her and tell her whatever I'm supposed to tell her so she will give me a multiple entry visa and she will then mail it back to me. |

I didn't know that I could ask for a multi-entry visa before coming here. I paid 50 or 60k at immigration when I got my ARC. Annoying, yes, but I wouldn't rock the boat if they won't issue it at the consulate. |

Americans dont have to ask or pay extra for a reentry when the visa is issued. If the OP didnt get it, it was the consulate's mistake and they should fix it. There should be no reason for the recruiter or school to get involved or make any kind of request - the consulate messed up, they should fix it. |

I asked for a multi-entry and was given a single on my second go round in Korea. I was annoyed but didn't have the time to waste sending my passport back so they could amend it. So i paid the measly 50k won and had it fixed. nothing to get stressed about, really! |

I just emailed to consulate and asked what I needed to do. I hope I can get this fixed because I just don't want to pay for something that I shouldn't have to. |

It's also worth mentioning that the free multi-entry for americans only applies on the initial issuance of the visa. When you extend your stay (renew your contract) the multi-entry does not carryover. You need to pay for it. |

My passport is still at the consulate and they are waiting for me to call with whatever info I'm supposed to give them so they can stamp in a multiple entry visa instead of a single entry visa and send it back to me. I'm not stressed and I have time so I would just like it to be fixed so I don't have to pay in the future for something that I should not have had to pay for in the first place. |
