Apparently, there's an office right down the street from my house. I'm going tomorrow and wondering what I will need to bring, besides a passport and alternate ID, to get fingerprinted and request the CDC.

Also, has anyone needed to submit their marriage certificate to SMOE when applying with a spouse?

Go to your big local university (talking more than 20,000 students).

They will have a police station. Tell them that you need a federal background check for a teaching licence.

On the first question, yes, it will be that quick as long as the university you goes to is associated with a state edu board (all the major unis should be)

the processing time is quicker because teachers in the states have always needed a fed check for a licence and sometimes they need the check to be done ASAP.

I have gotten a fed check done three times in the past four years in Ohio and the most time it ever took was 5 days.

As for the second question, i have been trying to find out the same thing for next year.

Molly Bloom, regarding your second question: I work for SMOE with my husband. We started a year and half ago, and we were never asked for a marriage cert. That said, I think that newer teachers have been asked for proof. I would be very interested to know if others have been asked for it.

Wish I had known that you could get this done more quickly through uni cop shops. Do you have to request it in person when you go to them?
