Most of the time most people will not be able to recover anything due to lack on knowledge. But these days its real easy to recover data from a drive, even after formatting or partitioning. If your lucky your indiscretions may be overwritten by other data, so.... thats how it is. Also, depends what you mean about scrubbing software, you can get software that 'wipes' unused areas of the drive to keep it 'safe' on the fly so to speak.

Yes, I agree, the DBAN software can do that, it takes a long time mind you, but its the safest way. It is basically impossible to recover anything after that.
