I thought of this because today the schools secretary just came in to tell us that we don't have the usual school lunch tomorrow but we need to bring a packed lunch.
"Tomorrow, there is no lunch, ok, --------- school (not mine) is having an activity day tomorrow so we dont have lunch, ok".
I just nod my head and say, yes. I asked if my classes were going to change because another school was having an activity day but the answer to that is no.
After she left, I wondered, what does another school not even in my area having an activity day have to do with our school not getting lunch.
Though you hear that and you have been here so long, you just nod your head and go 'ok', I will bring a packed lunch tomorrow.
What have you heard over the years that doesn't really make a lot of sense to you, but you just accept it as a quirk of Korea? |

My school cooks lunch not just for my school but one other school on the otherside of town. When we have special events and lunch is not served that school gets no lunch. Might be teh case with yours. |

Yeah thats how I figured it too.
It might also explain some of the days we have had in the past too. It seemed strange that they would suddenly call a half day and have the kids bring a packed lunch.
I just thought it funny how I dont really question strangeness anymore - I figured others here had also reached a point where they had experiences or heard something that they thought strange but just accepted it.
You need to laugh at life and all its quirkiness. |

Good thing they told you! I know a lot of us would show up that day, to be told 5 minutes before lunchtime that we needed to pack something that morning. |

I found out yesterday that my school changed the schedule for midterms to 1 week later. I didn't question the change in the schedule, just the fact that no one told me to prepare for it (the change happened 2 or 3 weeks ago)!
OP, yeah, I make allowances all the time for things that I would find strange back home, or would wonder why it is happening, but, for now, I just say, yep, it's Korea. Smile, nod, change (or in some cases, not) and continue. |

I'm at one of those schools that gets their lunch from elsewhere. There are only 65 students here (I'm here 2 days/week), so the local elementary school cooks and delivers it here. On a good day, it's only so-so. |
