I am pretty sure it is not BY Jan.1, 2011, but AFTER Jan. 1, 2011, meaning that if you renew at the same school OR change schools OR if this is your first time teching in Korea, AFTER Jan. 1, 2011, you need to submit an FBI check...Oh, and you can get fingerprinted right here. Just print off the fingerprint forms from the FBI website and get thee to a police station...But first, find one that will do fingeprints...I don't think allstations will do them. The big one in Seocho-gu does them, but they looked at me like I was a crazy idiot when I walked in to get mine for a state check before. I got taken in the back room full of women who giggled and then taken back out front to a room full of men cops and they giggled while one guy fingerprinted me...they acted clueless.

Until Dec 31, 2010 E2 holders may use their existing CRC, but if you renew your contract a Federal CRC must be acquired and notarized before the Visa will be reissued".

Unless you are going to renew / apply for a new visa you are fine.

If your previous check was federal (anyone not from the US) you are fine.

All NON-USA country checks are FEDERAL (CPIC) for Canada (even if it was issued by a municipal force (Toronto, Winnipeg, Edmonton, local RCMP detachment, etc), UK disclosure, NZ, AUS and SA.

By and large it only affects people from the US who submitted "state" level CRCs (which enabled them to skirt around positive a finding from other states).

This is so confusing. OUr boss just told us that according to the immigration officer he spoke to, that as long as we renew this year, we don't need a national CBC.

All I can say is that I'm glad I got fingerprinted anyways back in July, just in case, because it seems like different immigration officers tell you different things. I just hope my prints were accepted.

WHY we need a CBC in the first place boggles my mind. We don't teach kids, if they woudl just get us an E1, everything would be SO much easier.

I have some recruiters telling me that the FBI check is effective from Sept 1, 2010.

What does teaching kids have to do with you being a criminal? Just because you do NOT teach kids doesn't mean that you are not a criminal.

E1s don't need CBCs, because they don't teach kids. E2s do because they teach kids.

Are you absolutely certain? I'm not doubting you, since in general from what I've noticed 'round here your info seems to be on the up and up. I'm just being paranoid and want to make sure the municipal check I had done in Calgary will be sufficiant and I won't have to deal with acquiring any documentation from back home to extend my visa.

My degree was verified by the Vancouver Consulate so is it safe to assume that's fine to?

Your degree is fine. Your background check should be fine too since it was a CPIC search (and I assume it was also verified by the consulate) but as with anything when dealing with immigration, "It depends on the officer at the desk at the time of your application."

They break their own rules though. The number of times I've heard immigration say one thing then insist on another is crazy.

You are at the mercy of individual officials and the left hand does not know what the right is doing.
You also have certain education boards demanding stuff extra to immigration.Golden rule is..cover your bases utterly.

At the moment you need more vetting for an E2 than you do to get into the FBI. I think they've exhausted every official piece of paper imaginable, but still wouldn't put it past them turning round and demanding an apostilled birth certificate and apostilled transcripts. No doubt they'll change everything again after 6 months when some politiician tries to make a name for himself by "clamping down on foreigners"..

I'm sure they'll change the rules again as well. They always do. Aposillised transcriptis?! That would be great. Apostillised sealed transcripts would be fantastic!

Thanx.

That last part is a good point. But this puts my mind at ease, dealing with all this paperwork is tedious. I think I even still of photocopies of each notarised document, maybe I should bring that in too when I apply to extend my visa
