I want to get a miles reward card. Can anyone suggest which ones are the best for the overall benefits: Miles, Seller discounts, and ease of use (Online account access). The more people, reply the better trying to weigh the pros and cons.Maintenance fees aren't a major criteria since most credit Cards here have relatively high maintenance fees. 100,000 a year +, depending on how many extra benefits you wants. So let's just assume we're gonna register as the highest tier.
Anyways in terms of miles Citi and KEB seem to offer the best rates at 1 mile per 1,000 Won spent. Citibank's Master Card gives slightly more miles, 1.2 for every 1,000 won and the Visa card seems to give a 5% discount on Cell phone bills. While KEB offers some extra kudos benefits like 5% discounts at medical places except the eye doctor but you need a minimum 500,000 Won purchase on the last month's bill and also gives 2 miles per every 1,000 Won spent abroad. Then there's the Samsung card, I don't know much about them except it's 1 mile per 1,500 and they're the only plastic you can use at Costco. A BIG plus.
And finally, the Lotte Card. 1 mile per 1,500. But you've got to convert it from your Lotte Points. You get additional bonus points if you shop at lotte stores (Pretty Easy, there's a lot of them). Some discounts at places like Lotteria, about 2-300 won and no maintenance fees
So of these: Citi Premier Miles, KEB Skypass Card, Samsung Card, Lotte Card. Which one do you use for airline miles and why? |

Getting a card will depend more on who you work for and what your visa status is than anything else.
Most of those cards are NOT available to anyone on an E2 (with the exception of the Samsung card and then ONLY IF you work at a public school or public university).
If you work at a hagwan the ONLY option you will have is a secured card (you have to secure your card with a collateral account) at one of the banks.

I agree that may be the case in general, but it's not always like that. Many years ago, I was in a hagwon with my E2 visa and got a credit card from Kookmin Bank. The hagwon manager simply went to the bank with me and the hagwon was the garantor for my card, so there was no need for me to keep any money in an account to secure my card. |

I use the KEB Platinum 700. This card comes with a free Priority Pass airport lounge card. With that card you can use a lounge at most airports in the world free of charge.
They don't seem to market this card to foreigners, but it comes with English statements. Oh, and you can add the option of airline mileage, but that costs a little more. |

Thanks for the nice review. Is this the card that also gives you a free round trip domestic ticket (Can you transfer that to other people?) or the shilla duty free gift card?? How much extra is the airlines mileages part? |

I can't remember the extra for the airline miles; I thought for me it wasn't worth it.
Each year you get a free round domestic trip for a companion when you've booked and paid for yours. So you pay, but your buddy/wife is free on the same flight.
If you don't want airline points, you get YES points which you can use to pay your annual fee or actually get a gift card for major shopping malls. I used mine at homeplus. |
