I just wanted to ask a question about the new visa process and immigration. I'm not sure if this has been covered, there are just so many threads to sift through.
Basically, if your visa expires before your contract date (by let's say a week) do you need to jump through the new hoops in order to get it extended just until your contract ends? Is there any recourse for your employer to go into immigration and have a temporary short-term extension done? |

i just went myself and all i needed was my passport, ARC, a business certificate from my school, and my new contract. they extended my visa until the final day of that new contract. it was easy despite all that i've heard, however it might be different for americans. |

| Same process for everybody. Although, youre lucky if they didnt make you pay the extension fee. I think its 30 000W to extend your period of sojourn. |

 forgot that! yes, i did have to pay 30,000. |

How is it that people have a 1 year contract that extends beyond the 1 year ARC? I hear about it a lot but I've never understood how that happens in the first place. You're ARC is from the day that you entered the country. Unless you arrived on a Friday and started work on a Monday then your contract should also be from the day you entered the country. Sure, I can see a possible problem of a few days, but legally, you're employed from the day you entered Korea, right?
I only once extended my stay and it was by about a month. My employer took my documents in for me and took care of everything, so I can't say what the process is, just that it's nothing complicated that takes no more than a day. (I got my ARC back the same day.) |

| I wonder if people are assuming their visa expires twelve months from the issue date, rather than the date of entry. |

Was this done before or after September 1st? I actually did this as well, but it was before September 1st. My boyfriend needs to have it done now, just for a one week extension and his boss seems to think that he needs to have his degree verified. |

| I just wanted to give an update. Apparently, if you show that you have a receipt for the request of a degree verification, that's good enough to extend or transfer your visa. I guess if your degree comes back as void, the same is true of your visa. |

| What is the usual visa extension timeframe? I read in an older thread that you could get an extension for 30 days, but I was wondering if anyone knew if this is still the case? |

| Simple process just get your documents together and 30k won. Took about 15 minutes. |

30 days is for the "free" extension that does NOT allow you to "legally" work.
If you mean a working extension of your E2 they can be anywhere from 1 day to 1 year (depending on your contract end date), cost 30k won and some paperwork.

No. Getting an ARC does not equate to employment. You are employed when you start work. The day that you enter the country is not necessarily the day you start work..which is why some people's contracts extend beyond the ARC. |
