|
|
Picked up a few six packs of Hite D in a can yesterday at Hannero Mart, and have been swilling them ever since. Here are my thoughts:
The D stands for dry, as in dry finish. I've always liked Hite the most out of all the Korean beers, so I'm not surprised to find the D so tasty.
From what I read in other posts, and from what I heard from friends, I was hoping it would taste really hoppy and bitter. It doesn't, but it's still good.
It's still new, so it's sort of hard to find. The little shops out here in Chungnam aren't carrying it, but I found it at Family Mart and the bigger places like E-Mart.
The initial taste is like that of any other beer, but the finish is much more clean and I guess 'dry'. There's almost no aftertaste whatsoever. I did a taste test comparing D to normal Hite, and it seemed like regular Hite left a weird filmy aftertaste in comparison.
I think the most notable quality about this beer is that it's not terrible. Like, when I take a drink, I don't recoil in disgust like other Korean beers tend to make me do. I barely notice I'm drinking it. Pretty soon the can is empty, and I want another one.
Bottom line: clean finish, easy to drink. Not life-changing, but a positive step forward in Korean beer progress. Best enjoyed ice cold.
What are your thoughts on it? |

| they kind of had too, foreign beer consumption here is getting bigger. Hite were forced to compete. Thats a good thing too. More choice means a bigger market, which in term will open peoples eyes to alot. |

It's ok. It's slightly better than regular Hite, but for 500 won more at E-Mart, you can buy Oettinger in the 500cc can. A big improvement.
Korean beer (Hite, Cass and OB) and American beer (Bud, Miller, Coors), are all very similar. Not awful, and very far from great. Drinkable, but watery and over carbonated.
Oettinger, Pils, Export and especially the Hefe-Weizen, are your best bargains in Korea @ 1650 won for a 500cc can, imho.
If the prices go back to 2500 won a can, not a bargain, obviously. |

Oh crap! I just came back from HomePlus Express and inadvertently picked up a 1-litre PET of Cass. I was digging for a cold Hite in the back of the cooler and didn't check the label!
Upon tasting...why does Cass have a funky metallic aftertaste. It didn't used to. I've noticed this for a couple of years, now. Does anybody else taste this? Or is it just me?
Ok, to anyone who ever said K-beer is nasty...they must have been talking about Cass. It is bad.
Back on topic. My HomePlus Express does not have Hite-D, dammit. |

| The FTA with the EU was finalized a couple of days ago........expect boatloads of European beer from next July......I'll celebrate by getting hammered on sweet, sweet, European beers whole pouring bottles of Hite, OB and Cass down the nearest drain. |

That is really good news. The FTA with Chile has significantly lowered the price of some very decent Chilean wines.
However, I will remain a little cautious, just because Korea does have it's beer companies to protect, unlike wineries, which are virtually non-exisitent here. |

Hite is the same as miller (both ass that tastes like water), cass is the same ad budweiser (decent price for performance) and OB is more like pabst (backup budweiser).
Hite D is crap, which is why I call it Hite Ddong
This is worse that Budweisers attempt at Bud Lime |

This is an outrage. Cass is the sound of vitality and I won't hear a peep out of anyone who thinks otherwise. [/b] |

| hite d is an improvement and is my new go-to Korean beer when i don't feel like stout and I'm too lazy to do the emart/homeplus bags full of beer on the bus route - which is most of the time. |

I tried it from the 500cc cans, couldn't find Oettinger.
Not as bad as other Korean stuff. No hangover from two cans. Taste was sweet, kind of fruity. |

Am I alone in thinking Cass is ok? It's a good drinking workhorse for weeknights, leaving the weekend for European beers.
Thought Hite D was also ok. |
