Some students noticed a small white dog walking around my school this morning. The owner hasn't claimed it yet (it's 2pm now) and I'm wondering what do do with it. I am providing water and food for now but I don't really know what to do after 5pm. I guess it could come to my house as a last resort but that means my Chuseok holiday is gone. Plus, the owner wouldn't know to come to my house (obviously) whereas they might try the school.
Any advice on what to do? (Forego the 보신탕 jokes, thanks) |

Put an ad up on animalrescuekorea.org
Put flyers around your neighborhood.
Ask around at your local vet offices, see if anyone has asked about a missing dog.
You can always drop the dog off at the vets office, but chances are that they would hold it for a few days and then drop it off at the local shelter, where dogs are killed after 10 days if they are not claimed.

I'm in Ulsan. The dog is currently staying with an animal hospital right by the school. I'm gonna check in on it in a couple of days and post an ad on that website just in case nobody claims the dog.
I'd probably take it in myself but my apartment is just a one room and it's not an appropriate size even for a small dog.
Thanks for the advice though! I didn't know about that website. |

Jvalmer is a dipshit.
If you are concerned about the dog but aren't ready to adopt you can always get it placed in a shelter and sponsor it so it isn't put to sleep and gets somewhat proper care. |

Agreed. I figured there'd be a couple of useless and insensitive posts. Easy to ignore.
Yeah, the dog is fine at this animal hospital for a few days (I'll slip them some cash too) and hopefully the owner will be found by then (or at least contact the school). If not, a student can take the dog (we've got 600 that I'm sure would love to have it) or I'll try and match it with someone online. |

Wild animals, yes. Animals who lived in captivity might not fare too well. Especially with pink-dyed ears. |

If it's a well cared for dog, he could have just escaped from his house - I'm not usually confrontational on these boards, but why would you take it? If his owners were at work and arrive home at 6, how would they know to come and ask you for him back? Especially now that it's Chuseok and the school won't be open anyway.
Dogs aren't idiots - he would have gone home eventually, and now he's in a strange place and likely won't be able to find his way back. |

I thought about this and made my decision based on my limited knowledge of dogs. I've only had rabbits before. We left the dog outside (but on school property and with water and food) on a long leash hoping the owner would come around and find it. Around 3pm it didn't look like the owner was going to show up. Also, Korean teachers don't seem to be concerned with the welfare of the dog in the way Canadians back home would so I sorta took the initiative on this one.
I figure the dog would be safer in our care for a few days than be roaming around hungry and at risk of getting hit by a car. This dog is small, clean, well-cared for so I figured it wouldn't have the smarts to lead it's way back. Plus it had a collar (but no name). It's definitely someone's dog.
The dog is currently at the animal hospital and I'll drop by tomorrow to post some signs around the area. |
