Woori Bank online international transfer- URGENT!!

I'm back in the U.S. for a while and can't seem to make and overseas transfer work on the Woori Bank website. What a retarded website. Usually it says the website doesn't have property security controls or something, then if I get by that screen my password/user name doesn't work. Error after error after error.

There doesn't seem to be a way to get my password sent to me. I fill out the form to send them an e-mail explaining my situation, and presto, of course the error message comes up and it doesn't send.

The situation is becoming desperate. I have very little money in America and REALLY need to make a transfer. HELP!!!

I've tried both Explorer and Firefox. One of them works better than the other... can't remember which.

I made it work in Korea. I use the same user name for everything, so I doubt I'm putting in the wrong one...

korean website typically only work using internet explorer. Other than that, I'm sorry, I have no idea. Have you tried calling Woori Bank? I know it would be expensive but usually they have an English helpline and it is only 2 in the afternoon in Seoul right now. Best do it quickly as Chuseok is next week.

you need your certification code. When you first got it sorted out, you should have gotten it attached to your main computer you use for online banking. It's something that can be saved to a flashdrive or external hard drive. Having this certification code would allow you to access your account and make a transfer from any computer with Internet explorer. In theory...though I haven't done it because I own a Mac and don't see the point in trying to send money from any computer other than the one I use at school for this. From what I understand of Woori's online banking system is that without this certification you can't transfer money from a computer which doesn't have your certification code on it (or pulled from the flashdrive). Sorry about your situation!

Ever heard of VOIP? It's so cheap, it's almost free. Actually it is free in some cases.

Or you could use Skype to call a Korean landline phone too. It's not expensive.

Hi OP, I'm having the exact same problem with Woori Bank - left Korea last year and now trying to send money back to my account in Ireland. Before I left Korea I registered my Irish account. I processed one transfer to another account in Korea while in Ireland, but today when I went to transfer to my account in Ireland, I can't find my registered Irish account on the screen.

Any ideas or solution? Just thought I'd ask you before going through the probable torture of dealing with the Woori helpline.

I'm with Woori and use their internet banking all the time.

Couple of points: firstly, I've never done an international transfer via online banking. In fact, I believe I was told I need to go into the bank to make international transfers. I've only done it once, but they told me I had to go back if I wanted to do it again. That could just be me, or maybe I just haven't set up the online side of things.

The other thing has been mentioned before. To do any transfers, even within Korea, you need to have your electronic certificate. You should have applied for, and installed that, on your computer when you started using internet banking. It is possible to copy it onto a USB (though it's not offered on the Woori website I think - I use Hana Bank's website to do it) but if you don't have that certificate with you, you might not be able to do any transfer.

So, either you need the certificate, or you just can't do international transfers with Woori's internet banking (which is what I thought).

But let us know if you get it working!

When you call Woori, ask if your account is set to block overseas IP.

I think you can download them from the Certificate Center section of the Woori website. I've got certificates for two laptops and two desktops as my computers at home and work have changed. No problem. They told me I needed to set up the international transfer once at the bank and then I could make subsequent transfers to the same account on my own.

What is the spread like on currency conversions at other banks by the way? It's about 4% today at Woori (1100 / 1139). That's kind of steep isn't it? $400 on a $10,000 transfer ... No wonder bankers can earn millions every year.

Yeah, I applied for and got another electronic certificate yesterday (my previous one expired). I used the previous one to conduct a transfer to another Korean bank account after I returned to Ireland last year. But my Irish account is not showing up in the list of registered accounts!!
