As you know, all the desktop computers in South Korea are Korean brands (LG, Samsung, Daewoo, Hyundai). However, I'm currently in the U.S. looking to buy a desktop, and I can't find a single Korean-branded PC. Why is this? I can't even find a used one on eBay. Search on-line at all the U.S. sites, and you won't find any. But yet most of the desktop monitors are LG or Samsung. What's going on?

Actually there is a Korean brand comp that people don't know it's a Korean brand. It's called Tri-gem.

Korea isn't in the pre-built export market; they rightly leave that black hole to Dell, etc.

If you really want a Magic Station, send me some cash and I will box one up for you.

They used to be. Our first computer back in 1988 in Canada was a Samsung. At some point they got out of the full model export business and went only to parts.

I believe up until a couple of years ago many of Dell's computers were actually Samsung computers. However I'm not sure if they have renewed this arrangement.

It really doesn't matter what name is on the front of a desktop case......there might be major components from 10 or more different manufacturers in there.......get down to circuit board components and there could be dozens of manufacturers involved.

Buy a Samsung PC and it's likely that not one single piece of that computer was made by Samsung. Really................ Maybe the RAM.

LG and Hyundai? Forget it. They don't make any computer components. They're all made by Asus (Taiwan) and other various Chinese and Taiwanese manufacturers.

That's why I always advise on Dave's to not shop by brand name.....always choose your laptop/computer by spec versus price ratio......the internals by any company are made by God knows who. And none of those Chinese/Taiwanese component manufacturers really has a big reputation for having better quality than another. They are all clones.

^ Good points. When it comes down to it if a lot of users complain about a certain model (not brand) not performing I tend to avoid it.
