Help me out here, IM having a discussion with an individual that says the Iphone can do so many things that an Android/Galaxy S cant.

I confiscated an Iphone yesterday from a student then compared both phones.

Size/Weight:

Width was about the same, but the Galxay S was much lighter.

Display:

Honestly I couldnt tell the difference between the 2 (indoor and outdoor), but the screen size made viewing much better on the Galaxy S.

Battery Life:

Galaxy S gets an extra one, but Iphone may get an extra hour of talk time.

Video Files

No conversion, its simple plug and play.

Software:

This is where I need some help. What can an Iphone do that a Galaxy cant?

Galaxy S is mostly plastic as Iphone uses more metal on construction.

Both phones sorta suck outside sun light views. Galaxy S has brighter and more realistic display, and Iphone has higher pixil density for clearer picture. (hardly noticeable IMO)

It all varies on use like app and such. Iphone you can't change the battery

Video Files

Galaxy S can pretty much play any vid files out there but Iphone is limited to MOV, MP4. (I think there's one or 2 more other files but can't remember. I could be wrong)

Both phones can do pretty much anything one over the other. Just lack of apps on the Android phones.
There's lot more apps on the Iphone since it started way before and it took off pretty fast. Android Phones are expected to exceed Iphone apps in 2012 from one article I read. We'll see about that.

As a galaxy s user id like to add this it suffers from occasional lag...doesnt affect usability greatly but still annoying when it happens...theres supposedly a froyo update happening in next few days which I'm hoping resolves this.

Also the fragmentation of the android system over dozens of different handset styles means some apps just dont work or force close on you

And no skype for now for galaxy s

Hardware-wise the Galaxy is slightly better......better graphics chip and better screen....

But as any iPhone lover will tell you, it's all about the apps.......at the minute, the iphone apps scene has every base covered, so there's a million and one cool things to do with an iPhone.....but as said above, the Android apps scene is growing fast.

The official Froyo (Android 2.2) update from Samsung will definitely not be available until November.

We'll have to put up with that lag until then......remember though, iPhone is on it's fourth version.....The Galaxy S is a brand new device. Any techie knows there will inevitable bugs in the first version of anything.

Since upgrading to iOS 4, my Iphone 3GS has frozen or had problems a lot. Before iOS 4, I hardly had to reboot my phone. After, I am rebooting once every 2 days.

Rather annoying. Galaxy S also had DMB, iPhone 4 doesn't.

Iphones ae easier to use, but are less 'tweakable'. You really are locked into the way Steve Jobs wants you to use the phone. With an android phone, you have much more freedom to customise.

I just did a quick 3G test with a Galaxy and an iPhone 4............a race to be first to load 3 different websites. Iphone won each time.....although that might just mean KT is faster than SK in my
neighborhood today.

Can someone give a brief description of the storage capablilities of both phones.

Usually Apple products lead the way on storage capacity across the board but curious the difference.

Depending, I might just keep my current 3G phone and by an ITouch.

Ive been getting this lag as well.

The only other complaint I have is not being able to play flash, but hopefully that gets resolved in 2.2.

The good news about the lag is there is a fix if your prepared to root your phone.

If a hacker can do it I dont see why samsung wouldnt also cache the file system in the same way in a future update.

And about android being an automatic win...thats fanboi speak of the highest order.

Its down to what you want and how u will use it. That will dictate which is better suited to you.[/quote]

No, but you can buy extra batteries for it that plug into the cable slot to charge it on the go, just like changing a battery in another phone.

Think different. Don't get an Iphone. Smile
Seriously, the iphone is a decent piece of hardware, but I just couldn't bring myself to do it. I really hate the way Apple operate, forcing you into either doing it their way, or going the jailbreak route and invalidating your warranty.
I went Android because of it's potential for growth. Right now, Apple has way more apps, but it's early days for the Android Market.
