|
|
I am taking a new position in Yeouido and would like to find housing nearby on line 5, preferably heading EAST from Yeouido no more than 10 stops or so, maybe to wangsimni. I know I do not like the 4 story building 1-rooms because they are too old for my taste. I also am not fond of the normal officetel due to it's size. Therefore, I think a loft style officetel is just what I need.
Can anyone recommend an area with many of the loft style officetels or know of one you highly recommend on line 5. Looking for something in the 1000/50-70 range. |

There's a nice loft style officetel almost directly above Gaewhasan Station on Line 5. It's called Byuksan Airtrium and the prices match what you've outlined. It takes 28 minutes to get to Yeoido according to the Seoul subway map. |

I second Gongdeok, large volume of both fairly new and older officetels in and around the subway stations. |

AND, a convenient transfer spot for Itaewon.
DON'T go to Gaehwasan. I used to live in Banghwa, the next stop over (last one on Line 5) and living so far out there gets old. I think Gangseo-gu has got to be one of the most boring spots in the city. Nothing out there but Gimpo Airport and Mok-dong (which is eh...). |

I lived in The Sharp Island Park which is just on the west side of Yeouido Park. I put down 10,000 key money and paid 1.5 million a month for rent, for a two-bedroom. If they have one-bedrooms they might be in your price range.
There's also the Xii apartments just to the east of the Yeouido subway station, they're probably not as expensive as they look.
My coworker worked in Yeouido with me and lived at the Xii apartments at Samgakji, which is a very quick transfer at Gongdeok station from line 6 to line 5. Not a bad commute at all. He paid 10,000 key money and 1 million (or maybe 1.1 million) a month. The bonus of that is that you're only a couple stops away on line 6 from both Hongdae (via Sangsu stn.) and Itaewon. |

Oh, and my other friend lives at Hyundai Hyel (현대 하이엘) apartments which is between Gongdeok and Aeogae stations on line 5. It's pretty nice and in your price range and it is an actual loft, although the loft area does have a low ceiling so you can't stand up straight up there. I think it's just for sleeping really. But you should check that one out. |

Depending on where in Yeouido you are working, you may also want to consider line 9, as that line has an express station at Yeouido station. If so, you may want to look at the Dangsan area. It is a stop a few minutes from Yeouido on the express line, and they have some officetel buildings nearby the station. It's not exactly the nicest area, but it is handy being on line 9 and 2, and a stop away from Hapjeong.
On line 5, Gondeok does have a lot of new officetels and it is a convenient stop as it is both line 5 and the brown line. |

Thank you all for your suggesstions. With your help, I was able to look around and find the perfect apartment at the Hyundai building mentioned above. It's exactly what I was looking for and the view from the 19th floor overlooking Namsam park is absolutely amazing.
