Seeing as the FBI Check takes 8-12 weeks to process (with no expedited services available), how will that affect applications this run?
People who wait until October to get their FBI background check submitted and apostilled will be waiting months before they can submit their documents for EPIK.
Have most people prepared for this?
Or will it take some time for spots to fill as people wait to get all of their stuff together for submission?
There seems to be quite a bit of confusion on the subject, especially for people who aren't on Dave's. I'm curious how the new Jan 1, 2010 rules will affect the pool. |

They will have to take in applicants before their checks have been submitted or completed. I mean all this commotion about documents yet you can still come here with a lot of documents outstanding and in process.

Ah,
I was under the impression that once you pass the interview portion, you can easily lose your position if you aren't quick enough in submitting your documents.
So I was wondering if some of the spots will take awhile to fill as people are waiting to get their final document package together.
Is that right in theory?
Applications open Octoberish, so if someone was to submit their FBI background check in November (late of course), they may not even get that back from the FBI until January/February. (12 weeks) With orientation on February 17th. Not taking into account the possible need to then get it apostilled as well. |

I got to SMOE orientation and there were a ton of people with missing documents. The documentation required for sufficing the terms of the E2 visa and the documentation required for sufficing Korean immigration are different.
This just goes to show the power struggle within Korea: immigration are trying to appease the Korean public by making more stringent rules. Said rules will only discourage prospective applicants from applying making it harder for the schools to fill available positions.
If you have everything in place but the FBI check they will accept you and just wait on the check. I had a memo the other saying US applicants have till January 2011 or something to get it in.

All papers you send to EPIK and to offices of education directly (if you are getting a Notice of Appointment issued as opposed to a visa number), are done are organized within the offices of education.
Immigration is not involved at this early 'paper gathering stage' and never has been up until now.
This is why so many teachers coming in at orientation time this year still had missing papers. EPIK hiring and confirmation of jobs is not exactly based on any 'first-in-first-served' as you are led to believe, but instead on who they often want to avoid, have or wait for 
Teachers' CRC and transcripts etc have often just been passed on to the school you are going to or held at the POE - not immigration.
This will mean that any decisions on October's new hiring demands on paperwork timeframes could very well be based on rules EPIK and POEs make up to suit as it happens. |
